Show Marriott-Slaterville History November 2007 been made a part of the regional consolidated plan. This shows projects the city has identified, ranked by need. Public comment was then accepted. Steve Mecham would like the grant to pay for a cemetery, secondary water for the whole city, and a bridge across the river for the trail. Steve Slater would like to use CDBG funds for the improvements to the Marriott and Slaterville Parks. With no further public comment offered, the council voted to close the public hearing and re-open the public meeting. Mr. Morris responded to the comments by stating that a cemetery does not qualify for this grant money because it would not benefit living low or moderate income persons. It may possibly be used for secondary water or for parks in certain circumstances. Mayor Butler told the council that at the last mayors meeting smoking-free parks was discussed. Cities outside of Ogden need to be careful of gang violence; our city is not immune. The CERT program had 25 residents graduating at the conclusion of the training program last month. Mr. Morris has left several messages with UDOT following up on the noise ordinance signs. Mr. Hodson would like the noise ordinance number put in the newsletter so that the public can contact UDOT about the signs. Mr. Slater reported that the street sign at 200 South 2550 West is missing. Concerns of the council about signage at the October council meeting have been taken care of with signs moved or placed appropriately. The annual Christmas party for the City Council and Planning Commission members, and volunteers will be held December 20, 2007, after the regular council meeting. An Emergency Preparedness Fair/Tailgate Party was held on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at the Mound Fort Stake Cultural Hall and Grounds, in our city. It was sponsored by the Ogden Utah Mound Fort Stake, joined by Marriott-Slaterville City, the Weber County Fire District and Command Unit, the American Red Cross, and Questar. Numerous demonstrations were on hand concerning home storage, 72 hour kits, and emergency sanitation. Food storage samples were available. Child Identification by the Weber County Sheriff's Department was carried out through the use of the new equipment which records and identifies children by their eyes. The Mound Fort Stake Presidency served hamburgers, hot dogs, and chips to those in attendance. Our greatest resource in an emergency will be the amount of time we have spent preparing for a disaster of any proportion. The first fail clean-up campaign was held this year with a dumpster located at both the Marriott and Slaterville Parks from November 16-19. These were free for residents to use for disposal of fall waste. It is a complimentary service sponsored by the city and Waste Management as part of the new garbage contract. The new Weber Fire District Station at 2023 West 1300 North is now open. As residents are now within closer proximity to this fire station, the fire district suggest that they contact their homeowners' insurance to inquire about qualifying for a lower insurance rate. Nominations for annual community awards were requested by Mayor Keith Butler, with a deadline of November 30, 2007. The awards are the Good Neighbor Award, the Elna Lucas Community Culture/History Award, the H. Orvil Holley Youth Leadership Award, and the Darrell Mecham Community Service Award. |
