This information has left behind rich histories, stories and important information regarding the history of the Marriott-Slaterville area. |

Show Marriott-Slaterville History June 2007 Scott Van Leeuwen advised that the Weber Fire District had the ribbon cutting ceremony for their new building recently. He invited the council to visit the building. He also noted that the Legacy Highway corridor group is still working. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 3, 2007, for the $2.4 million First United Methodist Church to be built at 1339 West 400 North in our city. Mayor Keith Butler attended, and in his remarks welcomed church members to the ceremony. An AARP Driver Safety Class for those 50 and over, will be held on July 7, 11 and 12, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. each day at the Senior Center. This program helps seniors improve their driving skills and often will get an auto insurance discount for those who receive a completion certificate. The Plain City Community Theater is presenting Pirates of Penzance from August 16-18. Performs and staff are needed. Auditions are on June 16, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Plain City Senior Center. Our city residents were invited to participate. Bits and Pieces The John Marriott Historical Society announced the 2007 Marriott Family Reunion to be held on July 23, 2007, at the Ogden Marriott Hotel. The Marriott Community was named for this early pioneer. June Campbell received the YCC Mattie Wattis Harris Strength and Compassion Award. Jeff Morris received the Weber State Toni Weight Lifetime Achievement award. Cayson James Nowell, son of Mark and Kendria Nowell, was born June 21, 2007. Ray J. Hartley died on June 22, 2007, at the age of 84. Ron and Dixie Holmes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house on June 9, 2007. They were married June 7, 1957. Weber County Deputy Sheriff Mark Horton was injured near the I-15 overpass on 12th Street about 4:00 a.m. He was responding to a possible DUI in the construction zone. The construction work lights made a field sobriety test difficult to read, so Horton crossed the road to ask that the lights be turned off for a few moments. As he walked back across the road, a construction subcontractor pickup truck hit him, throwing him to the ground and hitting his head. Injuries were deemed minor. |
