Show MID 49 ROAD STUDY 1 in 25 Drivers Crash Nearly one in every 25 drivers licensed in Utah was involved in a fatal, personal injury or property damage automobile accident during the first six months of 1949, records at the state tax commission revealed Saturday. In addition, 565 nonresidents were involved in Utah crashes. There were 5249 automobile accidents which result in the death of 61 persons and injury to 1656 others during the period. H.P. Leatham, director of the commissions drivers license division, said the figures were conservative. Comparatively speaking, Utahs record thus far in 1949 is better than that for the same period last year, but last year the state chalked up the blackest accident record in its history. Despite an increase of 4 per cent in behicle miles traveled this year over last, there was a 9 per cent decrease in the number of persons injured and a 25 per cent decrease in number killed during the six month period. |
