Show Marriott-Slaterville History July 2001 returned by August 31, 2001. Dead trees in the new park area have been cut down and interested residents were invited to pick up any dead wood from the park area for use as firewood. Jail inmates have moved the wood to near the road for easy access. A DWR agent has identified paw prints found in the area along Weber River as those of a cougar. Residents are advised to be alert for sightings. With encroachment of civilization on animal habitat, increasing numbers are seen in the natural river land in our community. Filing is open for the 2001 municipal elections. This year the office of Mayor and two City Council members are open for election. Interested persons must complete a Declaration of Candidacy before 5:00 p.m. on August 15, 2001. A filing fee of $5.00 is charged. Residents living on 2800 West have been enduring torn up roads and fields and the ensuing dust as a sewer line has been laid by West Haven City Sewer District along their thoroughfare. The city required the contractor to wait until proper road mix was available to repave the road to help avoid replacement problems. Thanks to these citizens for their patience. Congratulations go to Council President Dennis Ilium and his team who took 3rd place in the Wild Cow Milking Contest at the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo. We welcome a new business, Rent-2-Own at 1200 West and 1200 South, and wish them success in their endeavor. The 2nd Annual Field of Dreams Softball Tournament will be held August 2 and 3, 2001, at the Slaterville Park, commencing at 5:00 p.m. It is open for children and adults, with prizes to be awarded. Trudy Hilt is in charge of the event. Bits and Pieces The home of Wayde and Julie Miller at 3460 West Pioneer Road was totally destroyed when an explosion occurred during remodeling work. Earn P. Fryer, age 89, passed away on July 21, 2001. |
