Show Naturalist Will Speak Tuesday Rev. George M. Link Second in a series of three lectures in the Weber college Community programs will be presented Tuesday, March 22, in the auditorium of the college at eight fifteen p.m. by the Rev. George M. Link, American naturalist. Delmar Dickson, chairman, said Father Link will screen a motion picture, Alluring Alaska, coupled with a lecture about the wildlife of that country. The film will feature unusual sequences of wolves, deer, bear and moose living among high majestic peaks. Admission to the series of three lectures will be by season tickets or by tickets sold at the door. Weber college students will be admitted by presentation of student cards. Tonight at eight fifteen Lieut. Col. John B. Craig will open the series with an illustrated talk, Across the World and Underseas. Concluding the series will be a lecture by William Bradford Huie international correspondent, Wednesday evening. Ogden Native Dies at 84 In California Tribune Special OGDEN, March 22 Mrs. Rosannah (Aunt Rose) Brown Ballantyne, 84, formerly of Ogden, died Sunday at 11 30 a.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gladys B. Thomas, Long Beach, Cal., after a seven month illness. She had resided in Long Beach for the past 25 years. She was the widow of Joseph Ballantyne, onetime leader of the Ogden tabernacle choir, Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. She was born Dec. 21, 1864, in Ogden, daughter of Francis Almond and Martha Anderson Brown, pioneers of Utah. After attending city schools and Weber academy, she was married to Mr. Ballantyne in the Salt Lake LDS temple. He died in Long Beach March 19, 1944, after being prominent in music there and in Ogden. In musical work, Mrs. Ballantyne was also active. Her church work included 30 years as head of the Primary assn.. and kindergarten Sunday school of Ogden Fifth LDS ward. She was a vocalist with the Ogden tabernacle choir and was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. In California her activity in the church included Relief society and Sunday school. Survivors include a daughter and a son, Mrs. Thomas, Long Beach, and Joseph Earl Ballantyne, Summit, N.J.; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Francis May, West Jordan. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, at 3 p.m. at Larkin and Sons funeral chapel by John A. Shaw, bishop of the 33rd LDS ward. Friends may call at the funeral chapel Saturday until time of services. Burial will be in Ogden city cemetery. |
