DESERET NEWS March 24 49 Virus Declared Cause of Cancer LONDON The British Medical Journal says the biggest advance in cancer research for many years may result from new experiments indicating definitely that a virus causes cancer. The journal, official organ of the British Medical Association, reported the experiments. They were carried out by Dr. W.E. Gye, director of the Imperial Cancer Research fund, and three colleagues. Dr. Gye described how he and his fellow researchers transmitted tumors in mice by means of dried tissues. The tissues of a chemically fostered tumor from a mouse was subjected to a temperture of 110.2 degrees below zero Fahrenheit for five to eight weeks before drying. The only thing that could have lived through that treatment would have been an ultra microscopic microbe known technically as a virus, they said.
