Show Gold Star Group Leader Ponders Case of Mrs. Capp SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 11 The presidqpt of the Gold Star Mothers of America today talked with the defiant Utah grandmother who would spend her life in jail before violating a pledge to a dead son. Mrs. Walter H. Boyd, Long Beach, Calif., arrived here early today and stayed up until three a. m. studying court records telling how Mrs. Nettie W. Capps, Bountiful, Utah, was jailed a week ago when she refused to obey a state court order. Mrs. Capps was directed to hand over 1200 GI insurance money to a trust fund for the thrice married widow of her infantryman son, Jacob. The Utah grandmother said that would violate a pledge to Jacob that she would support his three children but not let any money go to his wife, now Mrs. Maureen Stam, Oceanside, Calif. Mrs. Boyd said she hoped to return to California tomorrow after deciding how she might aid Mrs. Capps. She said she was making an open minded study of the case as she had of similar problems when she was a family relations court counselor. The Gold Star Mothers president said one point was clear at mans signature which he made in life should hold after death. She said that if the decision against Mrs. Capps holds it will prove that no insurance policy is really valid. She said that if she fails to straighten the tangled legal situation and get Mrs. Capps out of jail in a sensible way, then other steps could be taken. Meanwhile, family members said Mrs. Capps was in poor health behind bars that she was nervous and couldnt sleep. Reporters were barred from her ward cell. Saturday, August 13 Cool nite.
