Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY October 2007 Our beautiful fall weather, as warm as summer, continued throughout October. We are beginning to worry about the lack of moisture as we begin a new "water" year. Our reservoirs are low again at this time. October also brings us nearer the general election day, which will be November 6. The election will be administered by the state rather than the city, because of the state-wide referendum regarding school vouchers. Another measureon the ballot is the proposed transportation tax increase. We were reminded of the election in the October Pioneer Post. Three Marriott-Slaterville City Council seats are on the ballot. Listed alphabetically, they are: At-large Council: Gerald Bischoff and Scott Van Leeuwen; Council East District: Dennis Ilium and Randy Phipps; Council West District: Rob Smout. The city must pay the county $1,500 for its portion of the election. A "Meet the Candidates Night" was held at the City Hall on October 10, 2007, which gave an opportunity to visit with the candidates. Unfortunately few attended. Flu shots were available through Applegate Home Care on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., at the City Hail. Many of our citizens took advantage of this convenient service. UDOT will be reconstructing 12th Street, from I-15 to Harrison Boulevard, possibly beginning in 2008. It will include reconstruction of the street, storm drainage, curb, gutter and sidewalks. A community Emergency Preparedness Fair Tailgate Party, sponsored by the LDS Ogden Utah Mound Fort Stake, will be held on November 10, 2007, from 1 - 3 p.m. Information from the American Red Cross, Weber County Fire District and Command Unit, Marriott-Slaterville City, Questar, and advice on home storage, and 72 hour kits will be available. At the October 18, 2007, City Council Meeting, business licenses were approved for Rockwell Real Estate, 969 North 1200 West, Real Estate Company, and Rockwell Builders, 969 North 1200 West, construction company. Rockwell Builders is required to have a state contractor license, and a copy has been provided to the city. City Administrator Bill Morris administered the Oath of Office to Jason Calder, Robert Rowley, and Shane Surrage, as members of the Pioneer Special District Administrative Control Board. Mr. Morris advised grants received in the last year totalled about $228,521. The grants were reviewed by staff. The administration is also seeking an allotment of funds to purchase playground equipment for the park behind the city office and the basin on 700 South. A grant has been received for the equipment, but a 50% match is required. After review, the council approved the allotment, the amount not to exceed $50,000 for the match, shipping and installation. Councilman Delbert Hodson asked about the time line on the sidewalk grant for Pioneer School. Staff advised that UDOT is determining how this grant will be administered. Mr. Morris presented the updated Capital Improvements Plan to the Council. He explained the road construction projects on the plan, after Mr. Hodson expressed road reconstruction concerns he has. The Plan was approved unanimously by the council. Mayor Keith Butler reported he was invited to the ground-breaking of Les Olson Company, who are excited to be a part of the city. Scott Van Leeuwen spoke at the open house for the New Fire District. |
