Show The H. Orvil Holley Youth Leadership Award was given to Aubrey Dimick for her student leadership and example. The Darrell Mecham Outstanding Community Service Award was presented to Vernal Wardell, posthumously, for his tremendous service over the years at the Slaterville Park. Mr. Wardell passed away in January 2007. After discussion the council authorized releasing $20,000 in funds to purchase landscaping and irrigation material for the park behind the office. Mr. Van Leeuwen thanked Mr. Morris for his work on the 12th Street Project. UDOT will help with the costs for a new city storm drain line on 1200 West as part of the project. The council meeting was adjourned to attend the Christmas party which was held at the city building for council and planing commission members, volunteers and partners. A dutch oven dinner, prepared by Randy Phipps was served to about 30 people. Bits and Pieces Cara Henrie was bom December 21, 2007. She is the daughter of Dustin and Jannette Henrie. On Christmas morning Pam Tipping received an unwanted Christmas gift when the fire in her fireplace somehow spread into her house and garage. She expressed her heartfelt thanks to the fire department who quickly arrived and extinguished the fire before it caused serious damage. One of our venerable citizens, Julian Powell, can pass on some wise words to us at this winter solstice. He remembers hearing them as a child, quoted by an elderly gentleman. When the days begin to lengthen, Then the cold begins to strengthen. Let's remember that, as we look out at our cold December world. |
