Dee Memorial Hospital Affiliation Since 1933, through an arrangement made by the administrators of Weber College and the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital, student nurses accepted by the Hospital have pursued at the College a specific number of courses designated by authorities of the Hospital. Under the present plan, students of nursing register as full-time matriculated students for four quarters at Weber College and transfer to the University of Utah for six quarters. With the cooperation of the College and the University, students of nursing may secure a bachelor's degree within two years after graduation from The School of Nursing. CURRICULUM Nursing Education The following is a suggested curriculum for a student who plans to graduate from Weber College, and at the same time begin her nursing education. The student must be accepted for training by the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital before the beginning of the fifth quarter. Freshman Year A. W. S. Program prepares a young woman in the shortest possible time to practice as a graduate registered nurse. The student registering for this Program must be accepted for train- ling with the Thomas D. In addition, she completes her senior period by taking two more quarters at the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital, or State Public Health Department. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Nursing Education _ 1. Professional Adjustments. Orientation to the nursing profession. Principles of personal and professional conduct. One quarter hour. Autumn, Winter. Taylor 4. Nursing Arts I. The fundamental principles, techniques, and skills of nursing applied to the care of the patient. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. _ ^T . Pace 5. Nursing Arts II. A continuation of Nursing Arts I. Principles of advanced nursing techniques, and practice of the more complicated procedures. Four quarter hours. Winter, Spring. 10. Mathematics Involved in the Preparation of Solutions for Treatments and in the Administration of Drugs. Two quarter hours. Summer Spring. Robertine 12. Materia Medica and Therapeutics. A study of the physiological, .toxicological, and therapeutic action of drugs, with emphasis upon the nurse's responsibilities regarding drug therapy. Three quarter hours. Spring. Scoville 15. Pathology. A history of medicine, with introduction to diseases. One quarter hour. Winter, Spring. Zeman 17. General Medical Nursing. The presentation of medical diseases to prepare the nurse for work on the medical floor. Three quarter hours Spring. Scoville 19. General Surgical Nursing. The presentation of surgical diseases to prepare the nurse for ward work on the surgical floor. Two quarter hours. Spring. Rich, Pace |
