Page | Ogden is the second city in population in Utah, with over 32,000 inhabitants. It is the county seat of Weber County and is the important railway center of the Inter-Mountain country. It is the terminus of the Denver & Rio Grande, the Union Pacific, the Southern Pacific, and is also on the main line of the Oregon Short Line and the Salt Lake Route. Besides there are two inter-urhans—the Salt Lake & Ogden Railway to Salt Lake City and the Ogden, Logan and Idaho Railroad to Brigham City, Cache Valley and Idaho points. Another inter-urban to Huntsville is being built. Ogden is beautifully situated at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains and is surrounded by a rich agricultural and horticultural territory. It is the home of the canning industry in Utah, twenty-one canneries being controlled by Ogden interests. A large can manufacturing establishment is being completed and will be in operation this year. Because of its railroad facilities, it is a jobbing and manufacturing center. It is also a beautiful residence city with an ideal climate which is moderate the year round. The streets are wide and well paved and there is a first class car system. The city owns its own water works, supplying water direct from the mountains many miles away. There are several good hotels, two good daily newspapers, a well equipped hospital and an up-to-date public library. There are several public parks and children's play grounds within the city limits. Ogden's commercial strength is derived from large pay rolls of the railroads, jobbers, canneries, sugar factories, cement factories, candy factories and other large institutions, richly supplemented by mining, horticultural and live stock interests. The summer feature of the city is the beautiful Ogden Canyon which is famous throughout the country, being reached by the street car system and also by an excellent automobile boulevard.
