EARTH WEEK 1971 Earth Week Monday, April 19 to Saturday, April 24 sponsored by the Environmental Coalition and the Lectures Committee was geared at giving the student an opportunity to express his concern for the Earth. Monday featured a "Bike-In" to promote increased bicycle facilities in Ogden. A petition was to be presented to the Mayor at the City County Building, but both the Mayor and the City Manager were unavailable. The Assistant Recorder of Ogden City received the petitions and said she would present them to the city council. Tuesday pitted Dr. Jock Glidden of the WSC Philosophy Department and Dr. Dale Van Metre of the WSC Economics Department on the pro side of "Is Overpopulation a Myth" against Dr. Stephen Stanford of the Sociology Department and a guest speaker from the Sociology Department of Brigham Young University. The movie "1985" was presented Wednesday by ZPG. The action moved Thursday to a rock concert and a speech by Rich Snyder from the University of Utah. Mr. Snyder spoke on the subject "The Necessity of Wilderness." The Sierra Club presented the film "Multiply and Subdue the Earth," Friday. Participants undertook an Ogden Canyon Cleanup project on Saturday. Daily exhibits were offered by Anthropology Dept., Auto Dept., Botany 40, Geology Club, Physics Dept., Sierra Club, YAF and ZPG.
