In football he was assisted by Merlon Stevenson of the Athletic Council. Carl Belliston coached the Weber swimming team, which engaged in two meets with West High and two meets with U. S. A. C. He also coached the track team, which entered the junior college competition and upheld the record of 1935, when it won the championship. Stan Watts, Max Snow, Elmo Jensen, and Bernell Nelson were the student captains of basketball, football, wrestling, and track. Ronald Urry assisted the coaches and teams as Athletic Manager. Dick Graehl, through his work as cheer leader, has been the connecting link between the Student Body and the teams. From the small but willing and capable group of candidates to report for practice, Coach Swenson moulded one of the best elevens ever to represent the school. Because of the fact that the reserves were nearly as capable as the regulars, letters were awarded to the unusually large number of twenty-five players. Of the six games played during the season, Weber won three, lost two, and tied one. The outstanding victory was over the powerful B. Y. U. Junior Varsity. In the three games of conference competition, Weber rolled up a total of 64 points against 13 for the opposition. Weber gridders completed the conference schedule in a tie for top honors in the Utah division of the conference. In the play-off with Westminster, Weber lost the privilege of meeting Albion for the Jaysee Championship. |
