Show Phyllis Barker President Lucile Clark Adviser Ruth Goddard Secretary Alice Harris Vice-President WOMEN'S ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION Advised by Lucile Clark, the Association officers, Phyllis Barker, Alice Harris, and Ruth Goddard, advanced women's athletics in Weber, principally by intramural tournaments. With a beginning made only last year, these officers enlarged the program to significant proportions. The Association sponsored tournaments in many sports, thus opening a wide field to the choice of every girl. The interest of the girls was aroused to the point that each contest was anticipated keenly. Every girl who wished was free to enter any of these contests, for no limitations were placed on the number of teams any organization might enter. Success was largely the result of the splendid cooperation of all participating organizations. SWIMMERS FIRST ROW: Phyllis Garner, Iona Langford Iola Langford, Frances Heflin. SECOND ROW: Dorothy Bowman, Anna Beth Reeder, Helen Donaldson, Lucile Clark (coach), Zona Jensen, Madge Sackett. SWIMMING During the 1936 season, the women's swimming team entered only two events. This was chiefly because of its late organization. These two events were with the Utah State Agriculture College and the local Splash Club. The first major event of a competitive nature was an exhibition held in Logan with the U. S. A. C. Because both coaches were averse to speed events during their preliminary training for form, the judging was not officially recorded and events were not timed. The first swimming meet was held March 30 with the Weber Gymnasium Splash Club and was highly successful. Through a series of ten events, both for speed and form, Weber took six first places, four second, and one-half of the third places. The total score was 36 to 48, Weber. |
