Ronald Urry and Evan Jones debated affirmative, and Russel Harris and Nevin Richards negative. WEBER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH As a preliminary to the Utah-Idaho Tournament and a method of making new debaters eligible for Phi Rho Pi, eight Weber teams engaged in sixteen non-decision debates with the junior varsity of the University of Utah on March 3. UNIVERSITY OF UTAH WOMEN'S TEAM AT WEBER March 16, a women's team from the University of Utah met Larry Evans and Callis Caldwell at Weber in a non-decision debate. COLLEGE OF THE PACIFIC AT WEBER March 18, Grant Burton and Nevin Richards argued the affirmative against Louis Sandine and Ernest Poletti of the College of the Pacific. Parker UTAH-IDAHO TOURNAMENT AT UNIVERSITY OF UTAH For the third consecutive year, Weber College placed first in the Utah- Idaho Forensics Tournament held at the University of Utah, March 27 and 28. Eleven junior colleges and universities entered more than a hundred contestants. The Weber men's debate team of James Lazenby and Ronald Urry won first place in the men's division. They were awarded individual gold medals and a silver loving cup which carried with it the league championship. Wanda Welling and Marian Wilson placed second in women's debate and were awarded individual bronze medals. Five other Weber men's teams participated in the tournament with varied success. They were made up as follows: Grant Burton-Nevin Richards, Toyse Kato-Russel Harris, Evan Jones-J. L. Parker, Larry Evans-Callis Caldwell, George Matsu-Frank McQuown. |
