Show Weber Lost Championship on this Play MAX FORBES BOB MIKE STAN WEBER VS UTAH AGGIE JUNIOR VARSITY Weber opened its 1935 football season with a practice game against the Utah Aggie Junior Varsity at Logan on October 5. Considering the fact that the Wildcats had practiced only one week, they made an impressive showing. They were defeated 18 to 0 only after a courageous battle against heavier and more experienced opponents. Aside from providing the players with much needed experience, the game enabled Coach Swenson to pick out the most promising prospects for the contests to follow. WEBER VS. WESTMINSTER Weber's initial conference encounter, played on the home field against Westminster of Salt Lake City, resulted in a 6 to 6 tie. The Parsons took advantage of a Weber fumble and a penalty to score in the opening period. Their attempted conversion was blocked. The Wildcats' tying points came early in the third quarter, when Weber marched down the field to score after a series of sensational gains. Weber failed to add the extra point that would have meant victory. During the remainder of the contest Weber outplayed its opponents and threatened to score on several occasions, but each drive was terminated short of the goal line by numerous costly fumbles. WEBER VS. SNOW COLLEGE Weber met with very little opposition in disposing of Snow College 32 to 0 in the Wild- cats' second conference encounter. In this con- BENNY CHET Weber vs. Westminster test Weber displayed vast improvement over the preceding game. Fumbles were less numerous, and both the running and passing attacks functioned much better. The Wildcats enjoyed a highly successful afternoon; the regulars scored five times and then retired to let every player on the squad demonstrate his ability. WEBER VS. B. Y. U. JUNIOR VARSITY Generally conceded to be the weaker team, Weber surprised critics by defeating the strong B. Y. U. Junior Varsity, 7 to 0. It was the best game played and the best form demonstrated by the Wildcats throughout the season. Several times during the early moments of the game, Weber threatened to score, but was halted on the goal line by fumbles and a stalwart B. Y. U. defense. Finally in the third quarter a determined Weber team marched down the field and scored on a short pass. In the closing minutes of the game, B. Y. U. made a drive into Weber territory, but a valiant goal line defense held the Cougars scoreless. WEBER VS. BRANCH AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE The final game on the conference schedule, played at Cedar City, resulted in a victory for the Wildcats. By defeating the Branch Aggies BERT EARL ERNIE |
