Show Willard Whitaker Truman Carver Torvall Nelson Hal Petersen BOXING This year boxing was confined chiefly within the school. As no other junior college had a team, there was no inter-scholastic competition. Weber boxers, however, supplied preliminaries to the Elks' Club bouts and gave pleasing performances. Several Weber boxers entered the inter-mountain A. A. U. boxing tournament at Salt Lake City late in March. Torvall Nelson won the title in the junior 118 pound class. Others, although handicapped by injuries, made showings. WRESTLERS FIRST ROW: Le Grande Page, Jack Bingham, Don Farr, Thomas Seppich, Jim Fox. SECOND ROW: Elmo Jensen, Royle Wheeler, Oliver Baird, Nolan Taylor. BACK ROW: Bob Blakely, Darrel Robins. WRESTLING At the start of the wrestling season, Weber engaged the University of Utah and Utah State Agricultural College in practice wrestling matches. Although the Wildcats lost these meets, they made showings against the larger schools. After gaining experience in these first matches, the Wildcat matmen finished the season by defeating Westminster in two out of three group matches for the junior college championship. In the first contest with Westminster, the Parsons won by a score of 19 to 15. Weber won three bouts by falls, lost three by decisions, one by a fall, and one by default. In the second meet Weber won a decisive victory over the Salt Lake matmen and lost only three bouts, two by decisions and one by a fall. The score was 21 to 11. The Wildcats won the third and deciding meet by an even greater score, 36 to 8. Of the ten bouts, Weber won six by falls, two by decisions, and lost two by decision. By winning this meet Weber won the junior college wrestling championship. |
