Show BLAINE BACHMAN Secretary-Treasurer THERON JONES President JOSEPHINE VOLKER Vice President Seniors IT IS WITH A FEELING of joy mingled with sorrow that we leave dear old Weber, many of us never to return. Joy because we have finished our high school training and hold the privilege of graduating from a school with such high ideals and morals; and sorrow because we must leave the institution where we have spent four of the happiest years of our lives. We learned to respect, honor, and love Weber, and no colors outside the Stars and Stripes will ever be more dear to us than the Purple and White. Our last year of school has been one of our most successful. We have led all of the other classes in the number and variety of class parties. Our "roost" party at the Orpheum was a novelty so well liked by the other classes that they duplicated it. We did not win the school championship in basketball for some reason or other, but it was proved that we had the cream of the athletes in the school when nine out of the eleven hoopsters chosen to defend the purple and white were chosen from Class '19. Jones, Jeppson, Schade, Belnap, Wiggins, Critchlow, Barker, Campbell, and Hinckley were the Seniors on the squad, and the first four won positions on the all-state team-an honor never before bestowed upon a class. We showed our intellectual ability when we easily won the inter- class championship in effective speaking. Out of a possible thirty points in ten contests, the Seniors won twenty-seven. Isn't that a record to make the heart of any member of his class beat with pardon able pride? We established another precedent in the school when we won either first or second in every contest. Karl Storey, David McKay, Dwight Thompson, Effie Kasius, Lettie Ririe, Theron Jones, Derrah Van Dyke, Wallace Walker, and Russell Petty were the ones who "brought home the bacon." We purchased class rings this year, and ever since we began flashing them around school they have been the object of many admiring glances from jealous Juniors, Sopohomores and Freshmen. An honor dance was given for the "nineteeners" on May 2d, and we spent a very enjoyable evening. We wish to thank the faculty and student body for this entertainment. We again made a big hit when we staged our class play, "A Strenuous Life." It was a cleverly written comedy drama and the parts were handled in a roar-producing manner by the cast. It is rumored that many students are going to sue us for damages sustained by splitling their sides through laughing. We do not doubt the rumor and wish to say that there was something wrong with those who did not laugh most of the time. The cast was as follows: Tom Harrington, football captain.........THERON JONES Frederick Black, his chum...........ELLIS BARKER Byron Harrington, father of his son .....KARL STOREY James Roberts, a freshman...........JACK WRIGHT William Everett James, a new professor from Stanford, the rival college........WALT STEVENSON Dan Davenant, from the hills.........PAUL HINCKLEY Professor MaGee, director of the gym.....JOHN CRITCHLOW Nugata good, honest, intelligent Japanese school boy ElDON TAYLOR Dawley, a collector............EUGENE WIGGINS Mrs. Wigginton Wiggins, the landlady.......EFFIE KASIUS Marian Davenant...............RUTH EVANS Ruth Thornton, Mrs. Wiggins' niece........GRACE STONE Dulcie Harrington, Tom's sister from high school NORMA HUSSEY Widow MaGuire, familiarly known as "the Widow" VERA MALAN Senior day was celebrated May 21st. We gave a program in de- votional which made a big hit, and then spent the rest of the day en- joying ourselves at the sanitarium and at a bonfire party in Cold Water Canyon. On Friday, May 23d, we met as a class for the last time when the Juniors gave us a farewell party, which served very effectively in chasing away the gloom caused by our leave-taking. We now bid adieu to our Alma Mater and our happy school days. To the classes of '20, '21 and '22 we leave the responsibility of making 1919-20 a successful year for Weber. May you ever strive to uphold the high standards that Weber has always stood for, and make her a school indeed to be proud of. We wish to thank the faculty and students for their kind efforts to make our last days in dear old Weber so pleasant, and we will always carry a fond memory of them. We hope we have left foot prints worthy to be followed, and have inspired the other classes to a still higher standard of efficiency. |
