Show OA JACOBS Vice President LETTIE RIRIE President BERNICE RANDALL Secretary-Treasurer The Girls' Association IN SPITE OF THE BREAK in our school year, the Girls' Association has accomplished very much to its credit. The offices besides the president, vice president, and secretary-treasurer, are: Athletic mana- ger, with Effie Kasius, who has succeeded in making the first success of girls' athletics; Herald and Acorn reporter, ably held by Ruth Evans; and yell mistress, Luella Nicholas. The girl who proposed the last position did not seem to realize the weakness of her sex. What girl will sacrifice her personal liberty of saying what she likes when she feels like it? However, the yelling (or screaming) has been very good, if there was little unison. The first big event of the season was the girls' show, which was given in the latter part of February, and was a great success. Theo- retically there were no boys allowed, but they seemed to be in the majority and insisted on disturbing the peace. To complete the eve- ning, after the show a good lively dance was given while refresh- ments were being served. Our next signs of life were shown in our Easter dance. The deco- rations were carried out in true Easter style. The main attraction of the evening was the rabbit hunt in which some of our Freshmen witnessed their first hunting, both kinds. Everyone had a "jolly good time." The last, however, the best of all the game, was girls' day, when we showed the boys what we really meant by a "good time." In devotional was given a play, "The Mysterious Fudge Party." Mrs. Tanner is still dazed. After this the entire school was served with lunch and then everyone journeyed to the "San" and had a good swim. Later they re- turned to "top" the day off with a dance, to which every boy took the girl with whom he was paired off. We thank the boys for their "gameness." Altogether it has been a great year, and the departing officers wish the girls even more success next year. ARVILLA PARRY Vice President EFFIE KASIUS President OA JACOBS Secretary-Treasurer The Public Service Bureau THE PUBLIC SERVICE BUREAU was organized about four years ago under the supervision of David J. Wilson. Its purpose is to serve the public, and the officers of this year have tried to fulfill this aim. Every student is a member. This bureau is one of the largest advertising agents of the school. At the end of the first semester, tickets to one of our ball games were distributed to the mid-year graduates, encouraging them to come to Weber. To advertise the school play, word was sent by the Public Service Bureau to the Bishops of the wards, asking them to announce this performance at their respective churches. But perhaps the great- est work of this organization is the giving of programs at the various wards and institutions. Many of these have been given successfully this year, and we wish to take this opportunity of thanking those who have participated. These programs have been greatly appreciated whenever given, and they also benefit the students by giving them opportunities to appear before the public. Although the school term has come to a close, the work of the bureau continues throughout the summer. Letters have been cir- culated to the Bishops of the three stakes informing them of its continuance. If at any time readings, musical numbers, speakers, or complete programs are desired the Public Service Bureau will gladly furnish them. Next year perhaps will introduce new fields of activity for this organization. The work should continue to grow and take a promi- nent place among the student body activities of Weber. |
