Show Admissions Admissions General Informatioi All students who transfer to WSU are required to use the WSU catalog of the year that they enroll at WSU or any catalog more recent than that year. In addition, catalogs older than the six-year period prior to graduation are not eligible for use for the purposes of meeting graduation requirements. Reactivated Students Students who interrupt their enrollment at Weber State by not registering for one or more quarters, with the exception of Summer Quarter, must contact the WSU Admissions Office to reactivate their file. To reactivate, applicants must complete the following steps by the appropriate deadline: 1. Submit an application for re-admission. Students who have been out of school for less than one year may reapply simply by calling the Weber State Admissions Office. 2. Request official transcripts from each institution attended since last enrolling at Weber State. Students who have registered at another school since last attending Weber State are considered transfer students and must comply with all application requirements of transfer students, including the application fee. International Students International applicants with no prior college or university credit will be considered for admission without reference to the Admissions Index, but must submit evidence of U.S. equivalent high school graduation with a cumulative grade point average equal to, or better than, the U.S. equivalent of 2.50. International students must submit the following documents at least 90 days prior to the start of the quarter in which they plan to enroll: 1. An application for admission. 2. A $35 nonrefundable application fee. 3. Official transcripts in English from each secondary school, college, or university attended showing degrees, diplomas, and certificates received. Transfer applicants from U.S. colleges must have attended the prior college or university for at least one quarter or semester and must meet current transfer student admission requirements. 4. Evidence of English proficiency. English proficiency may be satisfied by presenting a TOEFL score of 500 or above. Test results should be sent directly from The College Board to the Admissions Office. International students transferring from another college or university who have not completed the equivalent of Weber State's English 111 College Writing course with a grade of C or better and do not have a TOEFL score will be assigned to the Weber State English as a Second Language Program (ESL). 5. A financial statement indicating the availability of at least $13,326 for school and living expenses during the first year at Weber State, and adequate funds for the full length of the time they expect to be enrolled. 6. An immunization form signed by a health care provider showing current evidence of immunity from DPT, MMR, and Tuberculosis. International students are admitted for enrollment every quarter, and must take at least 12 credit hours each quarter. All international students are required to meet with the International Student Advisor immediately after arriving on campus to receive individualized briefing and academic advice. The International Student Adviser gives assistance to students in meeting U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requirements concerning visas, passports, permits, permission to work, and related matters. Students are also assisted in making academic, social, and environmental adjustments to campus and community life. Mandatory Insurance International students must carry the WSU student insurance each term unless they can submit evidence of independent coverage. Special Admissions Programs Summer Enrichment for High School Juniors Qualified high school students who have completed their junior year may apply for admission to Weber State University's summer quarter courses. Students accepted for the Summer Enrichment Program are allowed to carry a full academic load but are advised not to register for courses which will be duplicated during their senior year. Applicants must meet current admissions index number. To be considered for admission to the Summer Enrichment Program applicants must: 1. Complete and return an application for admission. 2. Pay the application fee. 3. Complete and return a summer enrichment application supplement. 4. Submit a copy of their high school transcript. The transcript should be sent directly to the Weber State Early College Office by the high school. High school counselors can assist interested students and provide application materials. Early College for High School Juniors and Seniors In connection with local school districts Weber State has designed an Early College Program to give high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to participate in the college environment while continuing with their high school courses and activities. Students can earn up to a full year of college credit while completing high school graduation requirements. The Early College program is designed for exceptional students who are seeking additional challenges and academic enrichment. More information about this program can be obtained from Continuing Education, Promontory Tower, room 420, phone 626-7362. Graduate Applicants Master of Education Weber State University offers a graduate program leading to a Master's Degree in Education (M.Ed.). Although primarily for K-12 teachers in the public schools, non-traditional educators will benefit from the program. The program has a practical orientation and is specifically designed to improve the professional and instructional skills of teachers. Students may choose general preparation or specific areas of subject specialization. The goals of the program are accomplished through courses, seminars, independent study, cooperative learning groups, and individual and group assignments and projects emphasizing a practical implementation of theory to the student's teaching environment. Courses are generally scheduled weekly at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. during the academic year and in three-week blocks during the summer. The 54-hour program of study consists of a 24-hour professional core requirement and 30 hours of graduate committee-approved professional education electives and/ or courses in the student's discipline. A portion of the core requirement is the completion of a Master's project, a practical application of knowledge and skills to develop curriculum, instruction and management strategies, etc. Elective courses, workshops, and conferences are open to educators who are not seeking an M.Ed, degree, but wish only to improve their professional knowledge and teaching skills. Core courses are reserved for students admitted to the M.Ed, program, except for MEduc 601. Admission deadlines for the Master of Education program are February 1 for spring/summer quarters, May 1 for autumn quarter, and November 1 for winter quarter. Application for admission to the program is a separate process from class registration or matriculation at Weber State University. Application packets for admission are available in the M.Ed, office in the College of Education. The Master's degree program in Education is a selective program with a limited number of openings available to qualified students. To be considered for admission to graduate study in Education, applicants must complete requirements 1 through 8 as listed below prior to the intended admission deadline. 1. Complete applications for Weber State University and the M.Ed. Program. 2. Provide verification of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. 3. Provide verification of a teaching certificate, if applicable, and the equivalent of one year's full-time professional teaching experience. 4. Request all institutions previously attended send official transcripts directly to the M.Ed, office. 7. 8. Have three people familiar with your teaching experience submit completed program recommendation forms directly to the M.Ed, office. Have a minimum GPA of 3.25 or above on the last 90 quarter hours of approved undergraduate/graduate coursework. or Have a minimum GPA of 3.00 to 3.24 on the last 90 quarter hours of approved undergraduate/graduate coursework and a minimum score of either 40 on the Miller's Analogies Test (MAT) or 480 each on the Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Pass a formal interview with the Program Director. Pass a writing proficiency assessment. Additional Requirements for International Students: • Provide verification of minimum TOEFL score of 550. • Provide verification of an evaluated and Weber State University-accepted Bachelor's degree. Provide transcripts depicting all individual courses evaluated into the equivalent of American credits and letter grades. If the overall GPA is lower than 3.25, and the evaluated transcript cannot be calculated for the last 90 quarter hours of coursework taken, pass the Quantitative and Analytical portions of the Graduate Record Examination with a minimum score of 480 for each portion. • Pass an oral language proficiency assessment. If an applicant does not achieve admittance, he/ she may reapply by completing all requirements current at the time of reapplication. A maximum of three applications are allowed. No more than 18 credit hours of approved coursework, including the transfer limit of 12 credit hours, will be accepted toward the M.Ed, degree at the time of admission. Master of Professional Accountancy: The Professional Program in Accountancy is a selective program with a limited number of openings available to qualified students. There are two categories of students who can be admitted to the program: 2. Students majoring in accounting who have completed all their junior level work. Students who have earned a bachelor's degree. Students who are admitted at the end of their junior year are allowed to take graduate level courses in their senior year. Typically, these students mix senior level courses and graduate courses during their fourth and fifth years of study. Students who have earned a bachelor's degree in an area other than accounting may be admitted to the graduate program: however, these students must fulfill additional requirements at the undergraduate level before taking graduate level courses.
