Student Teaching in Special Education (6) A, W, S Supervised teaching in selected special education programs in an elementary or secondary school. Prerequisite: successful completion of mild/moderate Endorsement course work. 482. Adult Education (3) A survey course in adult education with emphasis on philosophy, principles, and practices as evidenced in programs and various adult education organizations. Prerequisites: professional education course work, teaching experience, or approval of the instructor. *483. Individually Prescribed Program (1-9) Sa, A, W, S Designed primarily for teachers fulfilling recertification requirements or personal needs. 484. Practicum in Instructional Media Services (9) Minor is not currently being offered. 485. Supervision of Student Teachers (3) The cooperating teacher-student relationship and the factors and conditions that contribute to successful student teaching experiences. *487. Directed Experiences with Students (1) A, W, S Directed experiences with elementary and secondary school students in cooperating schools. Students may register for one unit of credit per quarter for a maximum of three quarter hours. *488. Teaching Practicum in Elementary Education (12) Sa, A, W, S Student teaching experience in a public school to synthesize theory and practice. Weekly seminar on campus. Prerequisite: completion of professional core through Educ 316. 489. Cooperative Work Experience (1-9) For students not yet accepted to the Teacher Education Program who meet the minimum cooperative work experience requirements of the department. Provides academic credit for on- the-job experience. Amount of credit will be determined by the department. 492. Short Courses, Workshops, Institutes and Special Programs (1-6) Consult the quarterly class schedule for the current offering under this number. The specific title and credit authorized will appear on the student transcript. May be taken on a Credit/No Credit basis. *495. Teaching Practicum in Secondary Education (12) A,W,S A preparation workshop followed by a public school assignment. Prerequisite: Educ 463. 496. Processes of Instructional Design (5) A systematic approach to solving instructional problems through the development of goals, objectives, instructional strategies and field testing of instructional products. The course consists of two modules, including a project contract. *498. Synthesis of the Teaching Program (3) Sa, A, W, S Synthesis of elementary program of studies with specific emphasis on beginning a professional career in teaching. Senior Project is required. To be taken same quarter as student teaching. *499. Senior Seminar (3) Sa, A, W, S Regular seminar sessions examining issues in secondary schools and curriculum. Senior Project. May be taken concurrently with Educ 495 with instructor's permission. Prerequisite: Educ 495. 506. Effective Mentoring in the Classroom (3) Course will cover strategies for effectively mentoring student teachers and novice teachers by expert teachers. Expectations for the course include journal keeping, writing assignments, and mentoring project. Teachers who enroll for ED 505 will not be expected to do the writing assignments nor the project, and will receive a C/NC grade. 511. Multicultural Education: Rationale and Curriculum Models (3) Provides a knowledge base concerning the curricular issues and need for multicultural education, and explores various curriculum models and approaches for successful implementation of multicultural education across the curriculum. 512. Issues in Multicultural Education (3) Examines the effects and impact of historical, political, social, and economic issues which affect teaching and learning for students from diverse cultural and ethnic groups. 513. Teaching for Cultural Diversity (3) Develops skills and knowledge in designing and applying effective teaching strategies to meet the interests and abilities of students from the diverse ethnic and cultural groups. *514. Language Arts in a Bilingual Setting (3) Develops skills for planning and implementing teaching strategies to enhance the teaching of oral and written language for students with limited English-speaking proficiency. 577. Field Experience in Multicultural Education (3-6)Stu ents will be provided an opportunity to gain experience i teaching and working with culturally diverse students and to apply what they have learned from the multicultural education core classes in a field based experience. 585. Foundations of Reading (3) W This course examines the principles of cognitive psychology that pertain to reading. The course explores how students comprehend and apply what they know with specific focus on the relationship between reading and learning. Related teaching strategies and classroom application will be emphasized. Health Professions Student Services The Weber State University College of Health Professions, in cooperation with affiliated clinical facilities and other departments on the campus, offers an expanding program for the education and training of health care professionals. The programs emphasize an integration of basic sciences, discipline- specific skills and knowledge, clinical experiences, and liberal arts which enable the graduate to make a maximum contribution to patient care as a member of the health care team. Through the organization of the health science educational programs in one college, a common core curriculum is operational which fosters the team concept of health care and the integration and application of the basic biomedical sciences to patient needs.
