Elementary Science Methods (3) A, W, S Goals, methods and materials to teach hands-on, inquiry-oriented science. Includes a field experience. Prerequisite: Educ 301 or equivalent (except Early Childhood Education majors). *313. Elementary Social Studies Methods (3) A, W, S Study of Social Studies Teaching in the K-6 environment. The purpose of social studies in the school curriculum, teaching methods, and classroom teaching experience (field experience). Prerequisite: Educ 200 (except Early Childhood Education majors), Educ 301. *314. Arts Methods and Gifted Education (3) A, W, S Modules on art-music methods and introductory exposure to gifted/talented instructional activities. Field Experience required. Prerequisite: Educ 301. *316. Classroom Management: Theory and Practice (3) Su, A,W,S Modular based course with emphasis on the classroom management of time, space, materials and behavior. 317. Teaching Reading in the Primary Grades (3) A, S Analysis of developmental reading skills with emphasis on readiness for reading, phonic and structural analysis, word recognition, use of the basal reader, and reading for various purposes. Prerequisites: Educ 306 or permission of instructor. *340. Word Recognition Skills (3) Understanding and teaching word recognition skills with emphasis on phonic analysis skills, structural analysis skills, dictionary skills, and spelling. 342. Kindergarten and Primary Education (3) The learning characteristics and learning needs of young children and how these are provided for in the program of the kindergarten and first grade. *343. Creative Processes in the Elementary School (3) Su, A, W, S Development of attitudes, methods and skills in creative teaching. Prerequisite: Elementary Education Seniors one or two quarters prior to Student Teaching and Early Childhood Seniors one quarter prior to children's School experience. 346. Classroom Strategies in Secondary School (4) A, W, S Select five modules for instruction and practice in specific teaching strategies from among such areas as laboratory method, individualizing instruction, games and simulations, inquiry and problem solving. Corrective Reading Methods (3) Principles and techniques for remediating reading problems. Prerequisites: Educ 306 or approval of the instructor. 467. Aerospace Education (3) Concerned with knowledge, skills, attitudes and communication about aerospace activity, and the impact of air and space upon society. 476.
