Show • Testing Centers University Dining Service General Information The Bookstore sells all books and supplies needed for classwork at Weber State. Paperback books, stationery, art supplies, calculators, clothing, and many other items are also available. (Note: Due to remodeling of the Union Building, the bookstore will be relocating to an off-campus location nearby.) Shepherd Union Business Office, located in Room 230D, provides services and support in the areas of purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to all administrative units within Student Life and the Union. The Shepherd Union Ticket and ID Card Center, located adjacent to the Wildcat Theater, is a satellite office of the Dee Events Center's Ticket Office which provides tickets for theater, athletic, and student activities events along with University identification cards. The Learning Center incorporates student services of testing, tutoring and reserve library conveniently located in several areas around campus. • Tutoring is provided for most academic courses and is designed to help students at all ability levels. Service is provided without cost to students currently enrolled at Weber State. • Individualized Learning Programs are developed by academic departments in cooperation with the Learning Centers. • Reserve Libraries allow additional information to be placed by instructors for use by the students without additional cost to the student. TESTING CENTERS Locations: Office: Library, Room 45, Phone 626-6802, 7:30-4:30; Center: Library, Room 45, Monday-Thursday 7:30-9:00, Friday 7:30-4:30, Saturday 9:00-3:45. (Check with the Testing Center for hours during Summer and quarter breaks.) Science Laboratory Bldg., Room 228, Phone 626-7955, 7:30-4:30; Social Science Bldg., Room 36, Phone 626- 6598, 8:00-4:30 Testing Centers offer a variety of standardized tests for the purpose of placement, evaluation of achievement and granting of credit. In addition, aptitude, interest, personality and intelligence tests are given as aids to counselors relevant to college adjustment. Further information is available by calling the Library Testing Center 626-6802. The following national testing programs are also administered by the center: American College Test (ACT) The ACT test is required of all new freshmen students who are 22 years of age or younger for admission to Weber State. It is recommended that they take the test early in their senior year of high school in order to meet scholarship deadlines. National ACT tests are given five times each year at testing centers throughout the country. Registration packets are available from high schools, the Weber State Testing Center or by writing ACT Registration, P.O. Box 414, Iowa City, Iowa 52240. Test dates and registration deadlines for 1994-1995 are as follows: Test Date October 22, 1994 December 10, 1994 February 4, 1995 April 8, 1995 June 10, 1995 Registration Deadline September 23, 1994 November 11, 1994 January 6, 1995 March 10, 1995 May 12, 1995 Residual ACT tests are given several times a year for students who will be attending Weber State and have not taken the national ACT test. Contact the Library Testing Center for specific test dates and to pay the test fee. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) A maximum of 38 credits in the general education area requirements may be earned for satisfactory scores on General Exams in English Composition, Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, as well as additional credit granted for satisfactory scores in CLEP Subject Exams. The exams are offered on the third Saturday of each month. Registration forms are available in the Library Testing Center. General Education Development (GED) People who have not graduated from high school may take the GED tests for partial fulfillment of the application requirements for admission to Weber State. To take the test, the applicant must be at least 17 years of age and the high school class with which he/she attended must have graduated. Evidence of the class having graduated must be provided if the applicant is 17 or 18 years old. Exams are offered each week with the testing schedule available from Library Testing Center at 626-6802. Graduate School Admission Tests Candidates applying to the graduate program in education are required to write the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogy Test (MAT) as part of the admission requirements. Candidates applying to the graduate program in accounting are required to write the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The GRE is administered five times each year at Weber State and at testing centers in most states. Registration forms and test dates are available at the Library Testing Center. The MAT is administered at the Library Testing Center each Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. No prior registration is required. Applicants must pay fees at the time of the test and have complete addresses of the schools where they are requesting test results to be sent. The GMAT is given four times each year at testing centers in most states. Test dates and registration forms are available at the Library Testing Center. Coursework Tests Tests are administered in the three Testing Centers for various academic departments on the campus. This service gives greater scheduling flexibility and convenience for instructors and students. LIBRARY SERVICES Telephone: 626-6403 The Stewart Library provides a rich store of materials especially selected to serve the students and faculty. The collection, continually growing in cultural value, is composed of a number of types of educational materials. The collections total more than 300,000 volumes. The Library subscribes to over 2,500 literary, scientific, and educational periodicals and newspapers. Audio-visual materials including audio and video cassettes are also available. Weber State students and faculty may also use the libraries of other academic institutions in the state of Utah upon presentation of a valid student body card. Online information retrieval services are available to students, faculty, and to the public. These services allow access to millions of computerized records containing information in all subject areas. There is a charge for these services. A new addition to the Library was completed in 1976. The building has three floors with a total of over 150,000 square feet. In addition to regular library operations, the facility houses the Testing Center, the Learning Center, Student Support Services, and the Instructional Technology area. The Library houses several special collections, the largest of which is the Howell collection of approximately 10,500 volumes. This collection, willed to Weber State by the late Judge James A. Howell in 1954, consists mostly of eighteenth and nineteenth century American and English literature. Other collections include the Lawrence J. Burton Congressional Collection, the Jeanette McKay Morrell Porcelain Collection, the Frank William Becraft Oriental Artifacts, the Paul Branson Art Collection, the Hyrum and Ruby Wheelwright Mormon Literature Collection and the Roland Parry Music Collection. Farrell Shepherd Union, this popular foods area is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Saturday. Featured foods include: flame- broiled burgers, chicken, fish, salads, soft drinks, desserts, and grab and go items. Special combo meal pricing is available. The Gallery The Gallery, located on the third floor of the J. Farrell Shepherd Union, is open to the public Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A pleasant dining experience, the Gallery features hot entree items, made to order deli sandwiches, gourmet hamburgers, hot soup, and a Mexican bar, and Pizza Hut. The Snack Attack The Snack Attack is located on the Third Floor of the J. Farrell Shepherd Union. It is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. This is a convenient quick stop for people on the go. Promontory Tower Residence Hall Dining Residence Hall Dining Service is located in Promontory Tower and features a pleasant dining experience for students, faculty, staff and conference attendees.
