Show THE NEW VOCATIONAL EDUCATION BUILDING WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 73 VOCATIONAL EDUCATION Weber College has enriched its offerings by establishing a new division in vocational education. Weber College realizes that one of the most important aims of a junior college is to meet the needs of the communities which the college serves. These needs are found to lie in an education that will qualify youth for work opportunities. As a result of an occupational survey regarding work opportunities in our locality, the erection of a building for vocational education was planned. The new Vocational Education Building will be complete, equipped with the most modern machinery and facilities, and ready for occupancy by the opening date of school, September 19, 1938. This enlargement of the physical plant makes it possible to balance the offerings of the institution by the addition of the Terminal and Trade Division. The purpose of this new division is primarily to prepare students to enter the semi-professions and the trades after completing courses of one and two years' duration. Requirements for Admission A student must present fifteen units of high school work or must have attained the age of eighteen years. If the student desiring to enter vocational training does not present the full fifteen units of high school credit, a recommendation from the principal of the high school last attended must be sub mitted, providing the student has been in attendance at a high school within one year preceding the time of application for admission. Since the opportunities for placement and the equipment of some departments demand restriction of registration, Weber College reserves the right to limit registrations. Requirements for Graduation Before a student can become a candidate for graduation in the Terminal and Trade Division he must show that he will have successfully completed any two year terminal course as outlined in the catalogue or by the Dean of Instruction. Numbering of Courses Courses numbered 50 and above allow terminal credit. The vocational courses may not grant regular college credit to be applied on a higher degree. Coordination and Placement The responsibility of the Vocational Education Department does not end with the graduation of the students. Close cooperation and coordination with industry exists at all times. Courses offered are those in which placement opportunities exist. The teachers and coordinators are constantly in contact with conditions in the trades which they teach. They also assist graduates to obtain and hold industrial jobs. |
