Show 74 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH Units of the Vocational and Trade Department: The Day School, which occupies the students' entire time from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. provides courses in the semi-professions and day trade preparatory courses. The trade preparatory courses require three hours a day (fifteen hours a week) in shop or laboratory practice where work is done on a useful or productive basis, and three hours a day (fifteen hours a week) in technical instruction related to the trade which is taught. The Evening Classes are conducted at the school from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Individual programs of continued education will be worked out for every student by the trade coordinators of the technical departments of the school in conjunction with a trade advisory committee. Special classes will also be arranged to meet the needs of people employed in the professions in distributive occupations, in trades, and in industry. The Part-time Classes are organized to serve three groups of students: 1. Those who work one-half day and desire to attend school one-half day. 2. Those engaged in seasonable occupations or those temporarily unemployed who desire to register for short intensive full time courses. 3. Those whose employment will permit them to attend school only one or two hours each day. An elementary course in the principles of Gregg Shorthand. The Functional Method of approach is used, stressing reading and writing from copy and dictation. Shorthand penmanship drills are given daily. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Denning 52. Advanced Theory. A continuation of Business 51 introducing dictation of unfamiliar words and sentences, and short business letters. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Denning 53. Review of Manual. A course devoted to the systematic development of a practical vocabulary. The aim of the course is to develop facility in shorthand writing and accuracy in transcribing business letters and solid material. Designed to attain speed at 60 words a minute in letters and solid material upon completion of the course. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Jacobson 54. Review of Manual and Speed Studies. A continuation of Business 53. Designed to attain a speed of 80 words a minute in letters and solid material upon completion of the course. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Jacobson 55. Advanced Phrasing. A course consisting of varied dictation of letters and solid material for the purpose of building up a broad vocabulary. The development of speed is stressed. Designed to attain speed at 100 words a minute in letters and solid material upon completion of the course. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Denning 56. Advanced Phrasing and Dictionary Study. A continuation of Business 55, with dictation and transcription of business correspondence and solid material. Designed to attain speed of 120 words a minute. A course dealing with dictation of addresses, lectures, and civil service, with a view to increasing the student's ability in writing and transcribing shorthand.
