Show Financial Aid* standing", the eligibility of such student shall be suspended, and no further financial aids will be processed until he or she regains good standing. Good Standing means, with respect to a student, that the student is eligible to continue in attendance as he or she complies with the accepted and approved standards and practices of Weber State College and the Office of Financial Aids, and that the student is making satisfactory progress toward the completion of his or her course of study. Satisfactory Progress means that recipients of any financial aids must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher in order to remain on their respective aids program. The financial aids for a student will De terminated at the culmination of two successive quarters in which the student's cumulative GPA has been less than 2.00 and in which a positive trend is absent, unless the student has otherwise met with a Financial Aid Counselor and arranged for an authorized exception based upon illness, personal or other valid reasons as evaluated by the counselor. The student is also expected to complete at least 50% of his/her enrolled classes for each term by receiving grades other than I (Incomplete), NC (no credit), and W (withdrawn). Terminated or suspended eligibility for failure to maintain satisfactory progress may be reinstated when the student's subsequent performance becomes 2.00 or higher. Appeals of students may be processed, in written form, to the Financial Aids (Scholarship) Committee through the Director of Financial Aids. (Since federal program regulations are prescribed by law there is no appeal for federal regulations.) The financial aid programs of grants, loans, and work opportunities available to eligible students are identified and described as follows: Basic Educational Opportunity Grant (BEOG)You may be eligible for a Basic Grant as determined by your application form if you are an undergraduate student enrolled on at least a half-time basis. The maximum award is one-half the budgeted cost of attending Weber State College Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)You may be eligible for a Supplemental Grant if you demonstrate an exceptional financial need as determined by the aid application, without the grant would be unable to continue your education and are enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student. The maximum award is $1,500 per year and may be received for up to four years. However, the grant may be received for five years when the course of study requires the extra time. The maximum total that may be awarded is $4,000 for a four year course of study or $5,000 for a five year course. National Direct Student Loan (NDSL)You may be eligible for a NDSI. loan if you are enrolled at least half-time and have a financial need to meet your educational expenses as determined by the loan application. You may borrow up to a maximum of $2,500 in a two year period not to exceed $5,000 as an undergraduate student or $10,000 as a graduate student. Repayment begins nine (9) months after you graduate or leave school for other reasons. Payments are $30.00 per month, or an accelerated amount necessary to pay back the loan within ten (10) years. During the repayment period you will be charged three <3) percent interest on the unpaid balance of the loan principle. Payments may be deferred for up to three vears while you serve in the Armed Forces. Peace Corps, or VISTA. You may also be eligible for loan Cancellation Provisions if you enter certain fields of teaching or specified military duty. Guaranteed Student LoanYou may apply for a loan if you are enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment at least half-time. The maximum you may borrow is $2,500 a year not to exceed $7,500 as an undergraduate or $15,000 as a graduate student. Your interest will not be more than seven percent (7%) per annum. For these loans your application must first be processed through the Financial Aids Office and then presented to a commercial lender (bank, credit union, savings and loan association, or other participating lender) who is willing to make the educational loan to you. This loan is guaranteed by the State or insured by the Federal Government. Most students are eligible for Federal Interest Benefits. If you qualify for these benefits, the Federal Government will pay the interest for you until you must begin repaying the loan. The loan must be repaid. Payments normally starting 9 to 12 months after you graduate or leave school and you may be allowed up to 10 years to repay the loan. The amount of your payment depends upon the size of your debt and your ability to pay. You may be granted payment deferments for up to 3 years while you serve in the Armed Forces. Peace Corps, or full time volunteer programs conducted by ACTION. In addition, deferment is available any time you return to full time student status at an eligible institution. Information and application forms are available from the Office of Financial Aids, lenders Utah State Board of Regents, and Regional Officers of the U.S. Office of Education. College Work-Study (CWS)You may be eligible to work part-time to earn a part of your educational expenses if you are enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate or graduate student. 12 Financial Aid* The Financial Aids Office arranges jobs on campus, or off campus with public or private nonprofit agencies. If you are found to be eligible, you may be employed for as many as 20 hours a week as determined by your award. In arranging a job and determining how many hours a week you may work under this program, the financial aids officer will take into consideration: (1) your NEED for financial assistance: (2) your class schedule: and (3)your health and academic progress. In general, the salary you receive is at least equal to the current minimum wage. Nursing Student Loan (NSL)You may be eligible for an NSL if you are enrolled at least half-time in the Registered (AD) Nursing Program and have a financial need to meet your educational expenses. You may borrow up to $1,500 a year not to exceed $6,000 during your undergraduate nursing program. Repayment begins nine (9) months after you graduate or leave school for other reasons Payments are $15.00 per month. You may be allowed up to ten (101 years to pay back the loan if necessary. Cancellation provisions (up to 85%) for borrowers are credited for full-time employment as a professional nurse; teaching in any of the fields of nursing: service as an administrator, supervisor or full time consultant in any of the fields of nursing in any public or private nonprofit institution, agency or hospital. State Student Incentive Grant (SSIG)You may be eligible for an SSIG Grant if you are a disadvantaged student with an exceptional financial need and enrolled or accepted for enrollment as an undergraduate full time student and who without the grant would be unable to pursue their education as determined by your application form. The maximum award may be $1,500 a year not to exceed $4,000 during your undergraduate course of study. All financial aids awarded to eligible students are awarded for the academic school year and disbursed to the student on a quarterly basis i.e. one-third of the award disbursed Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters respectfully. In addition to maintaining "good standing", all students are respectfully advised of the following: No financial aids will be awarded to any student who is currently in default on any student loan or owes a refund for a grant previously received for educational purposes. Students are expected to promptly advise the Office of Financial Aids of: address changes name changes significant changes of financial status credit hour changes if the change drops the credit hours for the quarter to less than 12 Students who withdraw during a quarter in which aid was issued are expected to make proper repayment of the aid received. All tuition money refunds due to withdrawal from school or reduction in hours will be returned to the aid program from which the student received aid. Students are advised that, for purposes of the Office of Financial Aids, the following schedule shall apply: Full time student 12 or more credit hours Three-Quarter time 9-11 credit hours Half-time student 6-8 credit hours Part-time student 5 or fewer credit hours not eligible for aids (A student must average over 15 credit hours per quarter to complete a normal bachelor program in four years) Students are further advised that although the financial aids office will assist, advise, and consult, it is nevertheless the student's sole responsibility for the completion of the appropriate financial aids applications. It is also the student's sole responsibility to return his or her "student eligibility report" (SER) to the Office of Financial Aids. Student eligibility reports received by the Office of Financial Aids on or before August 15th will assure the student of receiving his or her appropriate award checks in time for Autumn registration. SER's received later than August 15th will be processed as quickly as possible but with no assurance that award checks will be ready for Autumn Registration. I. Student Expense Budgets: The following budgets are those typically used to calculate the financial need of students with the characteristics indicated below. Adjustments to these typical budgets are made to reflect special needs of different individual students. (The following budgets reflect those used the 1978-79 academic school year. 1979-80 and 1980-81 budgets will be similar but with appropriate adjustments for cost of living increases or tuition and fee increase, etc.) 13 |
