Show Humanities Music Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Music Education Teaching majors. C. A minor is not required. D. Music Education Teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. Music Education Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining a Music Education Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). These courses must include the following: Education 195 (1), 300 (3), 350 (3), 363 (3), 462 (3), 364 (4), 495 (15), 499 (5). II. Specific Requirements (Select one of these emphases): A. InstrumentalChoral Emphasis 1, Minimum of 80 credit hours. 2. Music courses required: a. Music 110 (5), 111 (5), 112 (5), 216 (1), 219 (2), 250 (3), 251 (3), 252 (3), 260 (5), 261 (5), 262 (5), 301 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3), 314 (3), 315 (3), 320 (3), 425 (4), 426 (4). b. Six credit hours of private study and six credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an adviser. B. Instrumental Concentration 1. Minimum of 79 credit hours. 2. Music courses required: a. Music 110 (5), 111 (5), 112 (5), 260 (5), 261 (5), 262 (5), 301 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3), 315 (3), 216 (1), 219 (2), 250 (3), 251 (3), 252 (3), 423 (4), 426 (4), 428 (3). b. Six credit hours of private study and eight credit hours of major ensemble in consultation with an adviser (including two hours of chorus). C. Choral Concentration 1. Minimum of 76 credit hours. 2. Music courses required: a. Music 110 (5), 111 (5), 112 (5), 217 (2), 219 (2), 260 (5), 261 (5), 262 (5), 270 (3), 301 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3), 314 (3), 320 (3), 339 (3), 422 (3), 425 (4). b. Six credit hours of private study and eight credit hours of major ensemble in consultation with an adviser (including two hours of Lyric Theatre.) D. Support course required: Communication 102 (3). Program: Elementary Education MajorsMusic Concentration I. General Requirements: A. Elementary Education major requirements: See Elementary Education. II. Specific Requirements: A. Forty-hour concentration. 1. Music courses required (30 credit hours): Music 110 (5), 111 (5), 112 (5), 216 (1), 301 (3), 302 (3); 314 (5) or 315 (5); 320 (3). 172 Humanities Music 2. Six credit hours of private study and four credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an adviser. B. Twenty-hour concentration. 1. Music courses required (17 credit hours): Music 169 (3), 216 (1), 301 (3); 314 (5) or 315 (5); 320 (3), two credit hours of major ensemble in consultation with an adviser. 2. Three credit hours of private study in piano or Music 213 (1), 214 (1) and 215 (1) in consultation with an adviser. Program: Music Departmental Honors I. General Requirements: A. Enroll in General Honors Program and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses. B. Maintain an overall G. P. A. of 3.3. C. Fulfill requirements for one of the Music majors: Teaching Major in Music Education with Instrumental-Choral Emphasis. Teaching Major in Music Education with Choral Concentration, Departmental Major in Music, Teaching Major in Music Education with Instrumental Concentration, and Departmental Major in Music with Concentration in Piano. II. Specific Requirements: A. In fulfilling requirements for one of the music majors, take at least twenty credit hours among these requirements in courses taken for Music Honors credit. B. Complete a Music Honors Senior Project in Music 499 in addition to the Senior Recital. C. A student may receive Music Honors credit in any upper division music course with the exception of the following: Music 340, 341, 343, 344, 345, 347, 348, 350, 353, 354, 355, and 360. D. Permission from the department chairman should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See Composite and Interdepartmental Programs.) Program: Music Minor I. General Requirements: A. A grade of C or better in all minor courses. II. Specific Requirements: A. Minimum of 27 credit hours. B. Music courses required (27 credit hours): 1. Music 110 (5), 111 (5), 112 (5), 301 (3), 320 (3). 2. Three credit hours of private study and three credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an adviser. 3.
