Show Composite Majors COMPOSITE TEACHING MAJORS In lieu of the major and minor, a candidate may elect a composite teaching major which consists of a minimum of sixty-nine hours of subjects in closely related fields. The composite major does not require an accompanying minor. In many cases, the requirements of the composite major may include courses which are also used to satisfy General Education requirements. Program: Biology Composite Teaching MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Biology Composite Teaching majors. C. A minor is not required. D. Biology Composite Teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. Biology Composite Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining a Biology Composite Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). These courses must include the following: Education 195 (1), 300 ( 3), 350 ( 3). 363 ( 3), 462 ( 3), 364 14), 495 (15), 499 (5). II. Specific Requirements: A. Minimum of 69 credit hours. B. Courses required: 1. Botany 110 (5), 112 (5); 361 (4) or 362 (5). 2. Microbiology 111 (5). 3. Zoology 201 (5), 211 (5), 212 (5), 330 (5), 381 (4). 4. Botany 345 (5) or Zoology 440 (4-5) or 445 (4) or 447 (4) or 448 (4). 5. Botany 320 (5) or Zoology 420 (5) or 421 (5). 6. Two credit hours from the following: Botany 499A (1), 499B (1), 499C (1); Microbiology 399 (1) or Zoology 499 (1). C. Electives: Additional hours of Biological Science credits required to meet state requirement of 69 credits. D. Support courses required: 1. Chemistry 111 (5), 112 (5), 113 (5) or 121 (5), 122 (5), 123 (5). 2. Geology 111 (4); 112 (1) or 122 (5). 3. Mathematics 105 (5) or 106 (5). 4. Physics 101 (5). 5. Communication 102 (3). E. It is recommended that the students take more advanced courses in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, especially if they plan on graduate studies beyond the bachelor of science degree. 48 Composite Majors Program: Business Education Composite Teaching Major Bachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). Economics 275 (5) or 430 (4) is recommended to satisfy the state requirement. B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). 1. Economics 101 (5); Psychology 101 (5) or Sociology 101 (5) or Anthropology 101 (5) in the Social Science area are required for Business majors. 2. Mathematics 102 (4) or 105 (5) in the Physical Science area is required. C. The School of Business and Economics core is required, as modified below. D. A minor is not required. E. Business Education majors must have a 2.25 G. P. A. or better in major courses. To enroll in any skill course, a student must have a grade of C or better in the preceding course in the same skill. F. Business Education majors must have an overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C. G. 183 total hours are required for this degree. H. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). I. Students who have taken Shorthand or Typewriting in high school will be placed in the appropriate level courses by means of an evaluation of their proficiency. Any skill courses that are bypassed may be replaced by elective courses in business. J. Students transferring credits from another institution must take at least one Typewriting and one Shorthand course at Weber State College to verify their skills. K. Students obtaining a Business Education Composite Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). Department of Secondary Education requirements for certification must be completed in sequence: Education 195 (1), 300 ( 3), 350 ( 3), 363 (3), 462 ( 3), 364 (4), 495 (15), 499 (5); Communication 102 (3) or equivalent. II. Specific Requirements: A. Office Administration Emphasis 1. Courses required (37 credit hours): Office Administration 103 (3), 123 (4), 150 (4), 201 (4), 202 (2), 203 (2), 353 (4), 354 (2), 360* (2), 361* (3), 362* (2), 363* (2), 499 (3). 2. Support courses required: a. School of Business and Economics core requirements, as modified for Business Education Composite Teaching majors (36 credit hours): Accounting 102 (4), 202 (4), 310 (4); Data Processing 101 (4); Office Administration 325 (4); Management 301 (4); Marketing 301 (4); Business Administration 101 (4), 320 (4). B. Basic Business Emphasis 1. Courses required (37 credit hours): Office Administration 103 (3), 150 (4), 203 (2), 360* (2), 361* (3), 363* (2), 499 (3). 2. Support courses required: a. Finance 101 (4), 301 (4) and ten hours from the following: Accounting 311 (4), 312 (4), 313 (4); Business Administration __321 (4); Economics 301 (4); Finance 320 (4), 330 (4); Manage- *Must be taken in the Junior year. 49 |
