Show me. A double date was planned. We celebrated the event by attending a public dance in Ogden City. From then on, Charles and I dated frequently. Very often he took me to the beautiful Grand Opera House in Ogden later know as the Orpheum Theater. What a delight for us to enjoy current stage productions from the East in this magnificent building. I had also been dating another fine young man who was the son of Bishop Turner of Morgan. I had become acquainted with him when working at Uncle Tim and Aunt Louise's home. Soon this young man stopped calling on me. Lizzie, the sister of the young man, told me years later after I was married and had three sons, that the young man had never married and that Charles had told this young man to treat me right and not to call on me any more as he, Charles, was going to marry me. At the time I was married, I was 22 years old and living with my parents on Cross Street. On March 28, 1894, I was married to Charles Arthur Marriott in the Salt Lake Temple. Charles' mother, Teresa Southwick Marriott, was anxious for us to live in her home as she had moved to Evanston, Wyoming to stay with her daughter Eliza Lauder. I went housekeeping at 163 22nd Street between Lincoln and Grant Avenues. For a short time, Charles' brother, Brigham, lived with us until he was married. I conducted a rooming house on 23rd Street, between Grant Avenue and Washington Boulevard just west of the Lincoln Hotel. While Charles and I were living here, my sister, Ida Madeleine Farley, was married to Chariton P. Ferrin in the Salt Lake Temple, October 18 96 and we gave her a wedding reception. On January 14, 1895, I became the mother of our first born, Horace Eugene Marriott. On December 3, 1896 our second son, Orion Charles Marriott was born. In early Spring 18 97, we moved to Evanston, Wyoming where my husband and his partner conducted a barber shop. Charles also worked for the railroad. While there, I was appointed assistant supervisor of Religion Class by Patriarch C. W. Burton. I held this position until we moved back to Ogden in the early Spring of 1898 . I had been licensed to teach this weekday class by Karl G. Maeser. Our third son, Milton Maurice Marriott, was born 22 July 198 9 in Ogden. In 1889, we went North and located at Dillon, Montana. Charles and George Gibson were in business barbering. Edward Marriott, Charles' brother, worked there putting up hay during the summer. We visited my sister Julia and her family at Bay Salt, Idaho. While in Montana we took a trip in a wagon through Yellowstone Park. We returned to Ogden in 1900 and located at Mound Fort. We bought a lot at 1208 Henniger Avenue (now Porter Avenue). This because our permanent residence for the rest of our lives. |
