Show to have us with them and made our stay as comfortable as possible. Through my future brother-in-law, Vern Harrop, I heard there was a need for a piano player in an orchestra. We played in Palm Dale, California in the San Fernando Veteran's home. I thought that I was pretty smart. The "Hollywood Whoope Hounds" was the name of the orchestra. Along with the piano we had a drum, Vern on trumpet, and perhaps a banjo player. We just got started playing some dance jobs when Mother and others were getting ready to return to Ogden. Vern was interested in Madeleine, and he returned soon afterward. This was about 1930. We did not see two of Aunt Jennie's children, Viv Gibson and Mabel Gibson Farr, very often during this time. When Aunt Jennie returned to Ogden to stay for a while, mother stored Jennie's hemstitcher which Jennie had used to make a living. Aunt Jennie taught me how to use the hemstitcher machine. |
