Show On November 21, 1908, I was called to serve as the first Primary President of the newly organized 7th Ward. I was sustained with Jennie Farr Budge as First Assistant and Elizabeth Lofgreen as Second Assistant, Sylvia Shaw as Secretary, and Florence Dee as Treasurer. This position I held for one and one-half years until I was released in May 1910 to serve on the stake Primary Board as supervisor of the 5th grade. I have lived in the 3rd, 6th and 7th wards of the Ogden Stake. While in the 3rd ward I was supervisor of the Religion class association. In 1918 I moved to my mother's home to care for my parents as they were aged and needed care. My mother passed away while visiting her daughter Ida Farley Ferrin in Toppenish, Washington in 1919. I was called to be President of the YWMIA of the 7th Ward in 1920. Jennie Farr Budge was 1st Counselor; Melba Read Jones was 2nd Counselor and Addis Thomas as Secretary. They were a wonderful group of sisters that worked with me. I truly enjoyed the work and association of the sisters, both in social and regular work. I held this position until I moved to California in 1923. I was also a member of the Ogden Tabernacle Choir with Joseph Ballentine as our director. Besides living in Ogden, I have lived in Brigham City and Logan, Utah; Portland, Oregon; San Francisco, Montana, and Alameda. While in Alameda, I was counselor to the Relief Society President. I have also been a Relief Society instructor. In 1922, my father passed away in Ogden, Utah. The following Spring of April 1923 I came to Los Angeles with my daughter Dora my daughter June had proceeded us by 5 months. We were members of the Adams Ward until the stake was divided. Then we became members of the new Wilshire Ward of the Hollywood Stake. While a member of the Wilshire Ward, I was called by the stake genealogy board to do work in the Research Department of the Los Angeles Library. I have worked at this since 1924 and have continued this work for 27 years. Presently my daughter June Franklyn is working as a home visitor in the genealogy work of this our La Crescenta Ward, of the Glendale Stake. My daughter Dora Grob worked in the same ward as secretary in the Primary. At this writing, my daughters and myself are active Visiting Teachers of our ward. I have been especially interested and actively participated in Temple work since 1893. As a young woman I took part in arrangements of Temple excursions for the young people to perform baptisms for the dead. I prepared Temple clothes for those who were engaged in endowment work. I have done considerable endowment work in the Salt Lake, Logan, and Mesa, Temples. My husband passed away in June 1938 at Oakland, California. Jennie Farley Gibson passed away in Montrose, California December 2 6, 1957 and was buried in the Ogden City cemetery in Utah. |
