Show I must relate an amusing event that took place at Aunt Julia's. Aunt Julia's home was the upper part of a duplex. At the entrance to the duplex one would ring a bell and ask for the door to be unlock by the person living in the upper apartment. Just after her sister Mary had arrived, her sister Jennie unexpectedly had traveled from Ogden to see her son Vivian, who was in the Army and soon to leave for overseas. It was dark at night when Jennie arrived at Julia's door. Jennie rang Julia's doorbell and Julia said: "Who is there?" Jennie said: "I'm your sister!" and Julia said: "My sister is here, you're no sister of mine!" By this time Jennie was laughing so hard that she realized that she couldn't talk her sister into letting her in. So Jennie went next door to the duplex and explained to the occupant her situation. Their neighbor contacted Julia by phone and explained Jennie's predicament and Julia quickly released her locked door. What a happy reunion the three sisters had. They had many a laugh as they related this event at various times over the years. Mrs. Miller Observed 90th Birthday Sunday Last Sunday, November 12, was a happy day for Mrs. Julia A. Miller, of 6510 Converse Avenue. It was her ninetieth birthday and in honor of the occasion relatives journeyed to Knotts Berry Farm where she was feted at a delicious chicken dinner. Those in the party were her son, Frank Moore, 6512 Converse Avenue, who spends some time with her daily; her other son and daughter-in-law, James and Clora Moore, of Arlington, a sister, Mrs. Lettie Forsgren, and a niece, Mrs. Donna Heed, of Huntington Park, and Mrs. Marie Moore, of Florence. Mrs. Miller has been a resident of Florence since 1914 coming to California from Ogden, Utah. She has one sister still living in the home state, Mrs. Mary Marriott, who spent some time with her here last year. Last year Mrs. Miller and her family enjoyed her birthday dinner at Knotts Berry farm and on that occasion was taken over the grounds in a wheel chair by her son Frank. Not feeling too well last Sunday, Mrs. Miller was pleased just to be with her family for the big feast and then return to her home for a quiet day. |
