Show name. I explained that it was Farley, the maiden name of his grandmother Ida Farley Ferrin. At the time of his mother's death, he informed us that she would have her funeral in Bountiful. My husband Vern and I attended. Buddy is a handsome, fine looking man, who resembled his father quite remarkably. He was delighted to see us and treated us most graciously as did Mary's relatives. He sang one of his mother's favorite songs, "Sunrise, Sunset" at the funeral service. I was so impressed I thought perhaps he had inherited this talent from his grandfather Chariton Ferrin and grandmother Ida Farley Ferrin. After Ida Ferrin passed away, her son Arnold brought several of her belongings that he thought Mother might like. Among them was a picture that Chugg Art Shop had framed. The picture consisted of flower blossoms which were embroidered by Aunt Ida. It was a very beautiful picture. After a number of years, the frame lost its finish and my son Jerry took the picture to Parkinson Art Shop where Ken Parkinson chose a chrome frame which enhanced the beauty of this handiwork. The colors of the embroidered flower are white, pink, and green. This art work has been enjoyed to this day in our home. Remembrances of My Aunt IDA MADELEINE FARLEY FERRIN Written by IDA VIRGINIA MARRIOTT KYLE When Aunt Ida returned to Ogden from Washington State with her family, she stayed with us for awhile until they got settled. Her husband Chariton was employed out of state. The whole family was involved in the oil and gas business and selling stock. We were quite excited that they were going to settle in Ogden and Salt Lake City. Aunt Ida Ferrin was our "socialite" Aunt because she soon became busy in church and civic affairs. She took delight in advising her sister, Mary Farley Marriott, and us girls of the styles that would be appropriate for us and gave us little hints about proper conduct and refinement among our peers and friends. She missed not having girls of her own. We, my siser Madeleine Marriott and I, were the benefactors of her advice. This was about 1932 or 1933. Friends were important to her. She assoicated with doctors and leaders and had a close affiliation with David 0. McKay, her close friend. Years later, when I was rather unhappy in my life and wished I could have had thorough training on the piano, Aunt Ida Ferrin said she knew of a wonderful concert pianist and maybe we could get an appointment with him. She was the instigator of my meeting Frederick Dixon. It was a thrill to take lesson from him and he presented me in piano recitals in the beautiful Crystal Ballroom at the Ben Lomond Hotel. He said "If I could have taught you when you were younger, you could have become a concert pianist." |
