I was disappointed however in not being able to visit Holyrood Palace where Mary Queen of Scots dwelt and where the murder of Rizzio took place, as it isn’t open on Sundays. The Castle however is quite interesting and one gets a fine view of the city. We had a Scot in plaid & Kilts take us thrugh the Castle. He and I got on fine together till I happened to ask him the name of the Park beneath us. He drew himself up quite proudly, threw his Tartan over his shoulders, folded his arms beneath his cape then in a perfectly withering tone he said: -- “Mon! Mon! Yons no a Pair-r-k. It be the Prince’s Street Gair-r-rdens” I was quite completely squelched to the great delight of the others. I’m recording it all so I can tell it to mother and because I don’t want to ever forget the ruffled dignity of that Jock. Oh well whats in a name? “Pairk” or “Gairden” whichever it is its a lovely place and we had oodles of fun there in the afternoon with the kids, Alick, Geordie and Angus, also with a genuine Scotch Lassie, who when I asked if her name was Jeannie replied: “Wha the hen’s feather-r-r- tault ye that”? We also ran across two “chickens” who wished to adopt us for the entire night and Woody wanted to go but
