Show Glasgow-(Continued) 6-2-19 a large monument to the two Scottish Kings, Bruce and Wallace both of whom fought, bled and died for Bonnie Scotland. Farther on off on the left stands the old historic Castle of Stirling on a high hill overlooking the town of Stirling. Here began the Story of Scotts poem:- The Lady of the lake. We left the train a few miles further on and took stages which drove off up the mountain road in the direction taken by the Hunter in the Poem, passing Ben Ledi, the Brig of Turk, and Lochs Vennachar & Ashray, halting directly under Ben Venue on the shore of Loch Katrine in the Trossachs glen Here it was that the Hunter Fitzjames lost the stag and also his good steed and was taken in charge by the fair Ellen. We took passage in a boat across Loch Katrine after eating lunch at the Trossachs Inn. Passed around Ellen’s Isle on our way across the lake. We had already passed by Coliantoghe Ford and seen Roderick Dhu’s Watch Tower on the hillside. It took about half an hour to cross the lake then we took another Stage out thru the wild mountain Country thru woods and dells beautiful beyond description till we came to the illegible where we had another lunch (about 4:30 PM) and then went aboard a boat on Loch Lomond.
