Show London June 8th 1919 Monday Went down to Westminster Hospital to see my Cousin Minnie Leaman She was out and I took a stroll along the River Thames past the Houses of Parliament Cross on the Westminster Bridge noticing numbers of excursion boats on their way up the river loaded with pleasure seekers. The English are a great pleasure seeking people and I was surprised to notice the number of women who smoke and in public. On my way back to the hospital I passed the Houses of Parliament on the other side and came to a large statue of Richard Coeur de Lion or Richard I of England surnamed the Lion Heart There is also a monument to Oliver Cromwell who Established the Commonwealth of England with himself as protector. Got back to the Hospital about 12:15 found Minnie in and we went to lunch together, then for a walk then Hyde Park. She had to go on duty at two o’clock so I left her at that time and went back to the hut to find Woody and the other fellows had disappeared. I however went out by myself for a stroll, ending in Hyde Park. Got myself into an Excursion and the Marine Sergeant appeared from somewhere to help me out. We took the girls to there bus as they lived about twenty minutes out in the country districts. On |
