Show Utah Construction gained the backing of several banks and negotiated with the Atomic Energy Commission to construct a 750-ton mill and produce 1,000 pounds of refined uranium concentrate per year. Utah Construction broke ground in March 1957 and completed the mill in February 1958. Ore piles rose just south of the mill area, unloaded from trucks in such a way as to make a uniform grade of feed for the plant. The ore then entered the crusher to be weighed and sampled for moisture content. Following the crusher, the ore traveled up a conveyor through a dryer and then back to a vibrating screen. Oversize material then went through a second smaller crusher, and then the ore was conveyed to the sampling plant. Fine grinding was done in a rod mill, a horizontal, rotating cylinder filled with steel rods. Then the fine pulp was pumped to the next step to be leached. |
