Show Year after year production and profits at Lucky Mc continued to climb. On March 23,1962, at 3:42 p.m., the Lucky Mc Uranium Division mined its one millionth ton of ore. For each 100 tons of ore entering the plant, the company stripped 1-2,000 cubic yards of overburden. During a given day, 100 tons of ore had to be processed in order to produce a single barrel of uranium concentrate, or yellow cake. In July 1964, the processing mill produced its 10 millionth pound of yellow cake, surpassing $80 million in value. In 1968 strip mining capacity increased by 200,000 yards per month with the purchase of two push-pull scrapers. |
