Show Education Child and Family Studies Program: Child Development MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). C. A minor is not required. D. Child Development majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. An overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C is required. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). II. Specific Requirements: A. Two 20-credit hour areas of concentration or one 20-credit hour area of concentration plus 25 additional credits of adviser-approved related courses. B. Child and Family Studies courses required (48 credit hours): 101 (3), 150 (5). 255 (3), 257 (3). 340 (5), 360 (3), 362 (3), 364 (2), 371 (3). 372 (6), 450 (3), 451 (3), 470 (3), 499A (3-4). C Child and Family Studies courses to elect from: 140 (5), 315 (3), 335 (3), 483 (1-5), 492 (1-3). D. Recommended course: Child and Family Studies 486 (2-9). Program: Early Childhood Education MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Early Childhood Education majors. C. A minor is not required. D. Early Childhood Education majors must have a C or better in major courses. E Early Childhood Education majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining an Early Childhood Education major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program by completing the following courses: Education 195 (1), 300 (3), 324 (3), 325 (6), 326 (6), 360 (4), 488 (15). II. Specific Requirements: A. One 30-credit hour concentration in an adviser-approved subject matter area or two 15-credit hour concentrations in adviser-approved subject matter areas. Support courses required: Math PS 108 (4) and 109 (4); Communication 102 (3) (or an approved equivalent); English 330 (3); Physical Education 362 (3) or 364 (2): and a total of 6 hours from the following: Art 250 (3); Music 169 (3), 213 (3), 320 (3); Theatre Arts 420 (3); Education 343 (3). 122 Education Child and Family Studies Program: Family Life MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). C. In lieu of a minor, a concentration of 20 hours outside the Department of Child and Family Studies approved by the department adviser. D. Family Life majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. An overall G.P.A. of 2.00 or C is required. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. 60 of the 183 hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 or above). H. A total of 60 hours constitutes this major with a minimum of 40 hours within the Department of Child and Family Studies. II. Specific Requirements: A. These courses from the Department of Child and Family Studies are required for each of the options listed below: 101 (3), 110 or 115 (3), 140 or 340 (5), 150 (5). B. uptions: 1. Clothing and Textiles Emphasis: 130 (3), 133 (1-6), 230 (4), 235 (3), 330 (1-6), 335 (3) and other hours as specified by department adviser, i.e., practicums, readings related courses, inside and outside the department. 2. Family Relations: 140 (5), 315 (3), 340 (5), 440 (3), 445 (3), 483 (3), 486 (2-9), or 499B (3), Additional hours selected according to student goals and arranged by contract with department adviser. 3. Foods and Nutrition Emphasis: Foods classes 204 (5), 286 (2-9) 300 (3), 402 (9), 460 (9), 486 (2-9), Management 110 (3), 115 (3),' 315 (3), 316 (3) (training for home economists in business). The following science classes which will also fulfill the general education requirements above are strongly advised: Chemistry 111, 112, 113, (15); Human Physiology 201 (5); Microbiology 111 (5); Economics 101 (5). 4. General Family Life: A minimum of two to three courses for each of the following areas Food and Nutrition, Management and Consumer Education, Clothing and Textiles, Family Relations, Child Development. Students interested can complete at Weber State College three years of a four-year program leading to a teaching certificate in Family Life Education. The final year must be completed at a university granting these certificates. See department adviser for suggested sequence of courses for this goal. 5. Interior Design: Interior Design courses 120 (4), 121 (3), 321 (3), 325 (3), 486 (2-9) and other hours specified by department adviser, i.e., readings and related courses, inside and outside the department. 6. Management and Consumer Education: 110 (3), 115 (3), 315 (3), 316 (3), and other hours as specified by department adviser, i.e., practicums, readings and related courses, inside and outside the department (training for home economists in business). 123 |
