Show Humanities Foreign Languages Program: German Minor and German Teaching Minor I. General Requirements: A. A grade of C or better in all minor courses. II. Specific Requirements: A. Prerequisite courses*: German 101 (5), 102 (5), 103 (5), 201 (5), 202 (5), 214 (2). B. Minimum of 18 hours of upper division credit in German for German departmental minor. C. Minimum of 23 upper division credit hours in German for German Teaching minor. D. German courses required (18 credit hours): German 304 (3), 305 (3). 306 (3), plus any 9 upper division hours. E. A German Teaching minor must take 330 (3) and 340 (3). The latter course (340) must be completed prior to commencing student teaching or similar training. F. A German Teaching minor should student-teach in German for a minimum of one quarter. *Students with foreign residence or equivalent preparation may omit these courses. SPANISH Program: Spanish Major and Spanish Teaching Major Bachelor of Arts Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor of Arts General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Spanish Teaching majors. C. A minor is required. D. Spanish majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. Spanish majors must have an overall G. PA. of 2.00 or C. Spanish Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining a Spanish Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). These courses must include the following: Education 195 (1), 300 (3), 350 (3), 363 (3), 462 (3), 364 (4), 495 (15), 499(5). II. Specific Requirements: A. Spanish courses to elect from: Spanish 302 (3), 303 (3), 309 (3), 401 (3), 411 (3), 412 (3), 414 (3), 415 (3), 416 (2), 417 (3), 418 (2), 419 (2), 430 (3), 483 (1-3), 499 (1-5). E. A Spanish Teaching major must complete Spanish 340 (3) prior to commencing student teaching or similar training. F. A Spanish teaching major must student-teach in Spanish for a minimum of one quarter. G. Program: Foreign Language Departmental Honors I. General Requirements: A. Enroll in General Honors and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses B. Maintain an overall G. P. A. of 3.3. C. Fulfill requirements for departmental or teaching majors in French, German, or Spanish. II. Specific Requirements: A. In fulfilling the requirements for a Foreign Language Major take at least 15 credit hours on an Honors basis. B. Complete a Foreign Language Senior Project. C. A student may receive Foreign Language Honors credit in any Foreign Language upper division course. D. Permission from the department chairman should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See Composite and interdepartmental Programs.) Asian Studies MinorThe Department of Foreign Languages participates in the Asian Studies Minor Program. A student who wishes to participate should indicate his desire to do so with the departmental Asian Studies representative who will help the student work out a proper combinaton of courses to fit his particular needs. (See Composite and Interdepartmental Programs.) Latin American Studies Minor ProgramThe Department of Foreign Languages participates in the Latin American studies minor program.
