Show Humanities Theatre Arts Program: Theatre Arts Teaching MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Theatre Arts Teaching majors. C. A minor is required. D. Theatre Arts Teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. Theatre Arts Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining a Theatre Arts Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). Enroll in General Honors Program and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses. B. Maintain an overall G. P. A. of 3.3. C. Fulfill the requirements for one of the Theatre Arts majors Theatre Arts Departmental Major, Theatre Arts Teaching Major, Theatre Arts and English Teaching Major, or Speech and Theatre Arts Teaching Major. II. Specific Requirements: A. In fulfilling one of the Theatre Arts majors, take at least twenty hours among these requirements in courses taken for Theatre Arts Honors credit. B. Complete a Theatre Arts Honors Senior Project. C. A student may receive Theatre Arts Honors credit in any of the following courses: 315, 343, 351, 401, 411, 412, 415, 483, 486, 493, and 499. D. Permission from the area coordinator should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. WEBER STATE THEATRE PROGRAM Play ProductionWeber State Theatre draws its staff members from areas of Theatre Arts and Music. It is under the administrative guidance of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts and (he School of Humanities. The Theatre program receives financial support from the Associated Students of Weber State College. Theatre SeasonA season of plays is presented each year which includes offerings in both proscenium and flexible production. The season may include legitimate plays, musicals, dance programs, and reader's theatre. A summer theatre program has been established as part of Weber State summer school offerings. Productions ranging from Children's Theatre to musicals have been included in the program. Special activities are often included in the total program, such as plays prepared for tour. THEATRE ARTS COURSES HU101. Survey of Theatre (2) Critical appreciation of live theatre for the general student. AWS HU102. Survey of Cinema (3) A survey of the techniques, aesthetics, and social implications of the cinema. AWS HU103. Basic Acting (3) For the general student interested in learning the basic skills of performance. A or W 106. Theatre Dance (1-2) Essentials of dance as it relates to theatrical productions. HU111. Introduction to the Theatre (2) A basic course required of Theatre Arts majors and minors. Others should take HU101. To In-taken in the first quarter of the freshman year. A 112, 113, 114. First Year Performance Preparation (3-3-3) An intensive study of stage movement, voice, diction, line reading, and their interrelationship with an introduction to the study of characterization Five hours of lecture and lab per week AWS 115, 116, 117. Technical Preparation (2-2-2) Introduction to technical theatre. One lecture and one 2-hour lab a week, not to exceed 30 hours a quarter. AWS 125.
