Show Technology Utah Skills Center North uals, textbooks, films, tapes, slide/tape programs, and specially prepared single-concept, graded reading handouts. These varied approaches to curriculum allow the Center's open-entry, open-exit, self-pacing system to accommodate a broad intake of students with diverse training needs and career goals. Employment: The Ogden Job Service Office maintains a professional staff at the Center to provide job placement support, conduct job market analysis, and provide curriculum verification surveys for the Center. Training: Vocational training is offered in 25 different occupations, defined by the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration's Dictionary of Occupational Titles. These occupations are organized into five major employment categories: (1) Bench and Service Trades, (2) Building Trades, (3) Clerical and Sales Trades, (4) Health Services, and (5) Metal Trades. Instruction in the classroom, in the shop, and on the job is designed to make the student job-ready. In addition, job-related basic education and required high school classes are taught and coordinated at the Center by Weber and Ogden School Districts. Catalogs are available in the Office of the Vocational Director in the Engineering-Technology Building and in the Administration Building. A comprehensive student supportive system is operated in conjunction with the student employability training. This area deals primarily with the barriers to employment that are usually associated with attitudinal problems. Placement is accomplished by a team consisting of instructors, counselors, and job developers who are working with all trainees to assist them in finding employment as they complete their training. Follow-up is conducted to determine if the training was adequate and to insure that problems that may occur during the first months of a new job are rectified. 290 CONTINUING EDUCATION Richard O. The Division of Continuing Education is designed to extend into the community not only the services but the spirit of the college. It is the Division's responsibility to become aware of the community's needs and prepare to offer assistance to meet those needs. Continuing Education assumes the responsibility for the non-traditional students in our society and creates programs, classes, and opportunities for them. The quality of service that has become traditional with Weber State will be maintained in any programs conducted by the Division. CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES All courses listed in this catalog may be offered under the direction of the department concerned through the Division of Continuing Education. The Division, in addition, may offer educational experiences to meet a wide variety of needs which cannot be listed in the current catalog. These will be listed in the quarterly class schedule or advertised in brochures, through the media or by other means. The needs of the student will be considered in each instance. CREDIT Credit toward degrees or certification will be offered by the departments as they direct in any regular course offering presented by Continuing Education. Credit will be offered toward degrees or certification in special workshops, seminars, conferences or mini-courses with the approval of the school or department to which they relate. NON-CREDIT Many courses will be offered for those students who are interested only in recreation or in professional and personal development and do not wish credit. CONTINUING EDUCATION UNIT The Continuing Education Unit will be offered for selected courses for students wishing or needing to keep a record of education activities other than those directed toward certification or degree. One Continuing Education Unit is awarded for ten contact hours of participation in an organized Continuing Education activity under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. 291 |
