Show LETTIE RIRIE Vice President RUSSELL PETTY President KARL STOREY Secretary-Treasurer The Student Body WEBER'S GREATEST ASSET IS HER student body and its "life." This year has been marked by enthusiasm and increased activities, and despite the great handicap that we have been working under (the loss of time caused by the epidemic of influenza), our year has been highly satisfactory. We note with pleasure the response of our student body and faculty in all patriotic undertakings. We raised $7,800 in the Liberty and Victory loans, and have assisted the Red Cross and many other patriotic causes. With the $500 bond purchased by the student body in the fourth Liberty loan we practically cleared the school from debt by paying for the lighting system of our auditorium. This contribution is the largest given Weber by any student body. Our state championship basketball team was given the undivided support of the student body and the receipts of the games, together with the proceeds of the school play, have netted us over $700. Our finances have been handled with satisfaction to all. Our student body programs in devotional have been both interesting and educa- tional. Although our intellectual contests have not been entirely successful from the standpoint of winning out, yet we have been laying the foundation for the future by the participation of the younger classmen in these events. There have been several important changes enacted by the Board of Control this year. Among these was an amendment to the constitution providing in substance that one student may occupy two offices on the Board of Control only by consent of said body. Into our by-laws were injected two noteworthy provisions, one establishing a definite honor system for the school, and the other providing a system of the editing of our school papers, the Herald and Acorn. This law provided that a member of the Junior or Sopho- more class should be chosen as associate editor of each of the papers in order that ex- perience in publishing the papers will not pass out of the lower classes. Our school year has been marked by a greater number of dances and parties than ever before. In a brief way this is a report of the student body activities for 1918-19, and with the realization of our dreams for a gymnasium, and with the competent officers of the student body for the coming year we feel that the successes of this year will be equalled n not surpassed in 1919-20. |
