Show Admissions Admissions General Informatio Freshmen Students Traditional Age Freshmen (24 years of age or less) - Weber State University admits new students 24 years of age or less on the basis of an admissions index number calculated from American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) composite scores and cumulative high school grade point averages (see admissions index chart below). The index number is established in relation to the availability of space on the main campus. It has been set at 85 for the 1994-95 academic year. New students with index numbers of 85 and above will be admitted. Applicants with index numbers below 85 may appeal to the WSU Admissions Committee or enroll at one of the University's off-campus centers. Students who complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at an off-campus center, including basic skill requirements in English and math (see right "Basic Skill Requirements"), with a grade point average of 2.25 or above, will be eligible for admission to the main campus. New Freshmen of Nontraditional Age (25 years of age and older) - Students 25 years of age and older will be considered for admission without reference to the admissions index, but will be required to present evidence of high school graduation or high school equivalency and must meet basic skill requirements established by the University. For the 1994-95 academic year, WSU will admit new students without reference to the number of high school units completed in various subjects. The University has developed the following list of recommended high school courses: four years of English; two years of mathematics; two years of biological/physical science; one year of American history, two years of the same foreign language; four additional courses, at least two of which should be from the following: history, English, mathematics beyond algebra, laboratory science, fine arts, and computer science. Basic Skill Requirements - Students whose proficiency in English and math fall below basic skill levels will be assessed a Student Development fee each quarter. They will be exempt from the fee when they have satisfied English and Math proficiency and have completed at least 30 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better. English proficiency may be satisfied by a grade of C or better in English 096, or by passing the English Writing test, or by achieving a score of 17 or better on the ACT English test. Math proficiency may be satisfied by a score of 17 or above on the ACT Mathematics test, or a grade of C or better in Math 096, or by passing the Math Placement test with a score high enough to be placed in Math 105 or beyond. It should be noted that the basic skill courses of English 096 and Math 096 carry an additional fee per credit hour in addition to regular tuition and the Student Development fee. English and Math proficiency are not the same as the English and Math competency requirements for graduation. (See WSU Core Requirements.) Submit an application for admission. Pay the application fee. Submit evidence of graduation from an accredited high school. Non-high school graduates will be considered for admission only if they meet the Admissions Index requirements in addition to presenting evidence of high school equivalency. High school equivalency may be satisfied in one of the following ways: (a) by passing the General Education Development test (GED) with an overall score of 45 or better with no individual score below 40. Applicants who satisfy high school equivalency via the GED must also submit ACT/SAT or Basic Skills placement test results; (b) by passing the American College Test (ACT) with a composite score of 20 or better (SAT of 840 or above). NOTE: To satisfy high school equivalency in this manner, an applicant's high school class must have graduated. 4. Submit ACT or SAT scores if less than 25 years of age. Students 25 years of age or older may submit ACT/SAT scores or scores from the English and math placement tests administered by the WSU Testing Center. 5. Submit an official transcript from their high school of graduation. The transcript must be sent directly from the high school to the WSU Admissions Office. Applicants Without High School Diplomas Non-high school graduates must satisfy Admissions Index requirements in addition to presenting evidence of high school equivalency. In the absence of a final cumulative high school GPA, non-high school graduates will be considered for admission only if their ACT composite score is 20 or higher (SAT composite of 840 or higher). Students 18 years of age and older may satisfy high school equivalency by passing the General Education Development Test (GED) with scores specified by the University - currently an overall average of 45 or better, with no individual score below 40. Applicants who plan to submit GED scores in lieu of a high school diploma are not eligible to take the test prior to the graduation date of their high school class. An ACT composite score of 20 or above will satisfy high school equivalency and preclude the need to take the GED. Transfer Students Transfer students 24 years of age and under who have completed less than 45 credit hours will be considered for admission on the same basis as new freshmen provided they have a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better. Nontraditional transfer students (students 25 years of age and older), who have completed less than 45 hours of credit will be considered for admission without reference to the admission index provided they have a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better. Students transferring to Weber State with an associate of arts or an associate of science degree earned at an accredited institution of higher education will be eligible for admission to Weber State University. Students transferring to Weber State with 45 or more quarter credit hours (30 or more hours on the semester system), but who have not completed an associate degree, will be considered for admission on the basis of their cumulative grade point averages as follows: (a) 2.25 and above - Likely to be admitted (b) 2.00 to 2.24* - May be admitted (c) 1.99 and below - Likely to be denied *Students who have completed an associate degree with a cumulative grade point average in this range will likely be admitted. To be considered for admission to WSU, students transferring from another college or university must complete the following admission application steps: 1. 2. 3. Submit an application for admission. Pay the application fee. Submit an official transcript from each college or university previously attended. The transcript must be sent directly from the prior school to the WSU Admissions Office. Applicants who are currently enrolled at another college or university must submit an official copy of their final transcript as soon as it is available. Students transferring to Weber State with an associate of arts or an associate of science degree earned at any institution within the Utah System of Higher Education will be considered as having met the Weber State general education requirements. Students transferring from a Utah System institution without having earned an academic associate degree but who have met that institution's general education requirements, will be considered as having satisfied the Weber State general education requirements if the registrar at that institution will certify that those transferring have completed general education requirements. Credit for courses numbered 100 or above earned in the Utah System of Higher Education is transferable within the System and will be carried on the student's transcript by Weber State. Acceptance of credit should not be confused with its application. Transfer credit may or may not apply to Weber State's graduation requirements. Credit other than that intended wholly to meet general education requirements will be applied to Weber State's specific degree program requirements upon the recommendation of the appropriate department chair. Students transferring from accredited junior or senior colleges outside the Utah System of Higher Education will be accepted with upper division standing if they present evidence of having completed an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree which included a general education program comparable to that of Weber State. If such is not presented, applicants may be required to complete general education courses as outlined in this catalog. Student Services Interdisc.
