Show • Master and Bachelor Degree Requirements Associate Degree Requirements • General Informatio constraints, marital troubles, etc. Waivers may be granted on the basis of evidence supporting one or more of the following grounds: (a) misadvisement/misinformation; (b) unreasonable obstacles; (c) equivalent standard/ substitutions; (d) reasonable progress; (e) circumstances beyond the student's control; or (f) other reasonable grounds. Requests for waivers must be submitted in writing (preferably typewritten), must cite the specific grounds, must include all necessary supporting documentation on which the request is based, and must include a copy of the student's transcripts. Students must submit an original, plus seven copies, of all request materials 24 hours prior to the time of the meeting. If they choose to do so, students may support their written request with an in-person presentation to the Committee. When requests involve members of the administration, faculty, or staff, those personnel will be given the chance to provide input prior to the Committee's final decision. Committee decisions may be appealed to the Vice President for Student Services. Appeals will only be considered for violation of due process or evidence of significant new information. College and Department Requirements—Major and minor program changes and waivers will be requested through the department and dean of the college and when approved will be logged directly into the computer. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MASTER DEGREES Weber State offers a Master of Education degree (M.Ed.) and a Master of Professional Accountancy degree. Program requirements are outlined in the College of Education and the College of Business and Economics, respectively. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR DEGREES Credit Requirements A candidate for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, or a Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree must have completed a minimum of 183 credits. A minimum of 60 credits of upper-division work must be completed. A person cannot qualify for two Bachelor degrees in the same year (see Second Bachelor Degree). A candidate for graduation can request two or more majors or minors for the same Bachelor Degree. Foreign Language Requirement for the Bachelor of Arts Degree A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts degree satisfies the foreign language requirement upon the successful completion of one of the following options: (1) The candidate passes WSU foreign language course HU203 with a minimum grade of "C+" or passes any upper-division WSU foreign language course (excepting 330) with a minimum grade of "C." (2) The candidate documents a proficiency level of "Intermediate Low" through an examination administered by the WSU Foreign Language Department or through an examination by a recognized testing agency. (3) The candidate transfers credit showing the completion of a college-level, second-year foreign language program with a minimum grade of "C+" or transfers credit showing completion of an upper-division foreign language course taught in the foreign language with a minimum grade of "C." NOTE: The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree does not have a foreign language requirement. Major Requirements Major programs which require a minor will consist of not fewer than 40 and not more than 60 credits in the major field. Major programs without a minor leading to a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science, or a Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree shall consist of not more than 85 credits in the major field. Minor Requirements A minor is a program of study generally selected to complement and strengthen a student's major and/or enrich the student's overall educational program. Some bachelor degree programs do not require a minor. See your major program of study outline to determine if a minor is required. Residency Requirement A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, or Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree must have a minimum of 45 credits in residence at Weber State and be registered during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to graduation. College or Department Requirements Further information concerning specific courses will be provided under the discussion of college or department requirements and instructions. Candidates for graduation in the College of Education must meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the Utah State Board of Education for certification of elementary and secondary schools. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSOCIATE DEGREES An Associate of Arts or Science degree is designed to meet the needs of students interested in a general course of study which can be completed in approximately two years and which may prepare them for employement. The Associate degree must be completed and received at least a year prior to qualifying for a Bachelor's degree, as the Bachelor's degree supersedes the Associate degree and they cannot be awarded simultaneously. Associate of Arts and Associate of Science A candidate for graduation with an associate degree must complete a minimum of 93 credit hours. Students must include in the 93 credits the "WSU Core Requirements" and the same General Education requirements that are outlined for the bachelor degree. The associate degree candidate is exempt from satisfying the state requirement in American History, Government, and Economics. There is a foreign language requirement for the Associate of Arts degree that a candidate for this degree satisfies upon the successful completion of one of the following options: (1) The candidate passes WSU foreign language course 103 with a minimum grade of "C+" or passes a WSU foreign language course at a higher proficiency level with a minimum grade of "C." (2) The candidate documents a proficiency level of "Novice High" through an examination administered by the WSU Foreign Language Department or through an examination by a recognized testing agency. (3) The candidate transfers credit showing the completion of a college-level, first-year foreign language program with a minimum grade of "C+," or transfers credit showing completion of a foreign language course at a higher proficiency level with a minimum grade of "C," or documents three years of the same language completed in high school with a minimum grade of "B." Some departments encourage or may even specify completion of specific courses in one or more General Education areas to complement their program of study. Associate of Applied Science The program leading to the Associate of Applied Science degree is primarily oriented toward job entry and is normally designed for students who wish to complete a formal education in two years (93 quarter hours). Preparation for this degree includes theory courses, shop and laboratory activities, directed work experiences, and general education. A candidate for the Associate of Applied Science degree must complete the following requirements: • A minimum of 93 credit hours. The required courses in the program of study and/or related subject areas to a maximum of 67 credit hours. • English 111. • One other course in written or oral communication specified by the candidate's department curriculum. • At least 20 hours from the general education courses listed in the catalog including at least one course in each of the four areas of Humanities (HU and HL), Natural Science (PS and LS), Social Science (SS and SB), and Personal Development (PD). Some programs leading to the Associate of Applied Science degree require Math Competency. Students should check the specific program requirements for the particular degree of interest. The curriculum for the student's program of study is described in the catalog listing of each department utilizing the Associate of Applied Science degree. Residency Requirement A student must have completed a minimum of 30 credits at Weber State for the title of Associate of Arts, Science, or Applied Science. Students must also be registered at Weber State during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to their graduation. REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTITUTIONAL CERTIFICATES An institutional certificate shall be awarded upon successful completion of a program directly oriented toward job entry when the program is a duration of 18 months or less (1-72 quarter hours or other designation). Curriculum and requirements for an institutional certificate are described in the catalog listing of each department utilizing the institutional certificate. Residency Requirement A student must have completed a minimum of 15 quarter hours of credit at Weber State for the institutional certificate. Students must also be registered at Weber State during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to their graduation. REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTITUTIONAL DIPLOMAS An institutional diploma shall be awarded upon the successful completion of a program directly oriented toward job entry when the program is a duration of 19-36 Student Services Interdisc.
