NOTE: It is recommended that more advanced courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry be taken, especially if graduate studies are planned beyond the bachelor of science degree. PROGRAM: BUSINESS EDUCATION COMPOSITE TEACHING MAJOR BACHELOR DEGREE Departmental Policies Students for any degree from the Business Education/ Administrative Systems (BEAS) programs are subject to the following policies: 1. To enroll in any intermediate or advanced computer course, the student must have a grade of C or better in the preceding course. 2. BEAS credits earned more than ten years earlier than the proposed date of graduation will not be accepted toward major requirements unless validated through a challenge examination or department chair approval. 3. A student in BEAS cannot obtain a degree from the department if any required course in the department has been taken for a grade more than three times. 4. Any deviation from the printed graduation requirements must be approved by the department chair prior to taking the course(s) in question. 5. Candidates for the Bachelor's Degree must complete the Business Foundations requirements from the College of Business and Economics, as outlined under each four-year degree on the following pages. These courses must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.5 before enrolling in any College of Business courses numbered 301 or above. It is recommended that these courses be taken in the freshman and sophomore years. 6. English EN111 (4) and EN112 (4) must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.65. Psychology SSI01 (5) and Sociology SS101 (5) will become required prerequisites for Management 312 beginning winter quarter, 1995, and may also count toward WSU General Education Requirements. Students obtaining a Business Education Composite Teaching major must satisfy the Department of Secondary Education requirements for certification in sequence (42 credits): Educ 195 (1), 300 (2), 301 (4), 303 (3), 305 (3), 316 (3), 365 (3), 462 (4), 463 (4), 495 (12), 499 (3). Support courses required (3-5 credits): choose one of the following: Chfam SS 150 (5) or Psych 314 (3) or Chfam 450 (3). Beas 325 (3) will meet the Commun HU102 requirement. • Business Foundations Requirements (23 credits): These requirements must be completed for entry into all classes numbered 301 or above offered through the College of Business. Acctng 201 (3); Beas PD170 (4); Econ 202 (4)**, 203 (4)**; Quant 240 (4)*, 260 (4)*. * Math 107 or equivalent is a prerequisite for Quant 240 and 260. ** Math 105 or equivalent is a prerequisite for Econ 202 and 203. • Functional Core Requirements (19 credits): Acctng 230 (3); Beas 325 (4); Busadm 320 (4); Mgmt 312 (4); Mktg 301 (4). Specific Major Requirements (35 credits): Beas 201 (4), 220 (3), 250 (4), 270 (3), 300 (2), 301 (3), 310 (3), *360 (3), *361 (3), *363 (3), 489 (2), and 499 (3). * Must be taken before student teaching. • Elective requirements (10 credits): Ten credit hours from the following areas with the approval of an advisor: Business Education/Administrative Systems, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Information Systems and Technologies, Management, Marketing, Computer Science, and Sales and Service Technology.
