HEADSTONE MARKER FOR PAULINE COMBE MALAN Madeleine Malan Farley's mother was Pauline Combe Malan. Pauline Combe Malan is buried in the Ogden City Cemetery. When Ida Marriott Kyle learned from her nephew Jerry Harrop that there was no marker at the grave site, Ida said: "There should be one placed there!" Madeleine Marriott Harrop, sister of Ida agreed. Madeleine Marriott Harrop then met with Pauline Malan Waterfall to discuss this situation. Pauline said that funds should be raised and a program planned for the ceremony at the setting of a headstone. Madeleine and Pauline divided up names of Malan relatives to contact them about donations to this cause. Ben Malan prepared the marker. On a beautiful summer day over 40 Malan relatives representing four generations with an age range from newborn to people in their eighties meet at the Ogden City Cemetery. The history of the Malan Family was read, prayers offered, songs sung and the headstone was put in placeall to honor a valiant and beloved Mormon Pioneer ancestor. The marker states "Wife of John Daniel MalanPauline Combe MalanAug. 25, 1805June 24, 1864Pioneer Mother 1855." The burial site is on 1st Avenue near the corner of Center Street. Some of the people attending the ceremony were Madeleine Marriott Harrop, Pauline Malan Waterfall, Joyce Peterson Lowe, Dr. Max Malan, Andre Malan, Ben Malan, Bertha Farley Luddington, Inez Forsgren Hess, Lowell Marriott Harrop, Jerry Harrop and many others.
