Same day 8 30 PM in Paris We arrived here at 8:05 and I am now at the Hotel Pavillon which is the Headquarters of the Y.M.C.A. in Paris. We rode all day on the train, the country becoming more and more beautiful as we got away from Brest. I noticed numbers of women working in the fields however poor things, dire to the slaughter of so many of their men in the war I suppose. Orchards, woods, farms, and the getting away from Brest made the trip a fine one and I checked in with the M.P. on the best of terms and in a very good humor. Took the Y. Truck which they had waiting but it filled so full that a bunch of us got off and went up on the Paris Subway. Here I got my first trip on this famous underground railway and it impressed me as being some wonderful system
