Show INTRODUCTORY OGDEN, the Queen City of the Mountains, is set down in the midst of the richest farming area of like size on this green earth, at the junction of the two rivers, the Ogden and the Weber, whose valleys rival the Delta of the Nile for productiveness, and having a climate for healthfulness un¬surpassed the world over, she is without a peer. There is a subtle something in her atmosphere which ever bespeaks of her coming greatness. There hovers over and about her the loyal spirit of promise and progress, which never fails to impress the most hurried visitor. Her business men and citizens work together in an unselfish, untiring spirit for the best interest of the community in general. The salubrious climate for which Utah is noted is a part of the daily life of Ogden. Humidity in the atmosphere is never perceptible, the climate is equable, extremes being scarcely known, the winters genial and the summers exempt from the excessive heat characteristic of this season further east or west. Ogden's material strength is derived from the railroad shops, smelters, canneries, sugar, cement and other factories, largely supplemented by mining, agricultural, horticultural and livestock interests. The monthly distribution in salaries from these various industries amounts to more than a million and a half dollars. No city in the northwest can show a stronger financial standing than can Ogden. The banks of this City command a stronger and more established position than any other city in this section of the country. Many millions of dollars are shown to be on deposit in the seven banks of the city, and each institution enjoys the utmost confidence, not only of the citizens, but of the whole intermountain empire. The population of Ogden within the city limits, accord¬ing to the U. S. Census figures recently given out, is 25,580. This volume embraces, however, as well as the city proper, all of the contiguous territory, and accounts for an additional population of not less than 5,000. 7 GENERAL INDEX Abbreviations 49 Alphabetical List of Names.. 50 Business Directory 585-639 Foreign Patrons 640-641 Index to Advertisements 8 Introductory 6 Miscellaneous Information ... 22-48 Street and Avenue Guide..... 11-21 Wards and Boundaries 48 INDEX TO MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.
