Show Scholarships Registration General Information FINANCIAL AID REPAYMENT POLICY If you withdraw from school, you may be required to repay a portion of the money you received for living expenses according to the following schedule: Before 1 st day of quarter 100% 1 st week of quarter 90% 2nd week of quarter 80% 3rd week of quarter 70% 4th week of quarter 60% 5th week of quarter 50% 6th week of quarter 40% 7th week of quarter 30% There is no repayment after the seventh week of the quarter; however, the student will still be held to the satisfactory progress requirements. For further information, see the Financial Aid Office. Student Expense Budget (Cost of Attendance) Your cost of attending Weber State University includes direct educational costs such as tuition, fees, books and supplies, as well as living costs such as room, board. There are five groups of budgets, and which budget applies to you depends on: your place of residence while attending WSU; your program of study; undergraduate vs. graduate; and whether you are a resident or non-resident student. The cost of attendance (budget) is pro-rated for less- than full-time attendance. SCHOLARSHIPS Location: Administration Building, Room 210 moving to Student Service Center, Room 101 Telephone: 626-6029 Supervisor: Jackie Cutler Weber State University awards scholarships for achievement of excellence in either academics or specific activities as described below. Unless otherwise specified, all scholarships are for one year and are not renewable. Students must apply each consecutive year for consideration. Application Requirements The following basic requirements must be met by all scholarship applicants: 1. Scholarship applications must be received at the Scholarship Office by February 1, for the following academic year. 2. The admission process must be completed by February 1. 3. All information, including ACT scores, verified high school GPA, transfer work, etc., must be on file in the Admissions Office by the February 1 deadline. NOTE: Test scores for ACT tests taken after December may not arrive in time to meet the processing deadline. Academic Awarding Categories New Freshmen - Scholarships include Presidential Awards (a minimum of 4 years of tuition waiver); Honors- at-Entrance, Sterling Scholar, Governor's Excellence in Vocational/Applied Technology, and National Merit. Awards may consist of full or half tuition and are generally based upon the admissions index or upon competition placement level. Transfer Students - Scholarships are awarded based upon cumulative GPA. Transcripts must be sent to WSU Admissions Office at the time of application for scholarship. Work in progress at another school which will go beyond the February 1 deadline will require a transcript with the most recently completed quarter/semester for scholarship consideration, and then a final transcript at completion for admission purposes. Continuing Students - Full or half tuition scholarship awards are based upon the cumulative GPA. A minimum of 12 hours of college GPA credits is required for this category. Activity Awarding Categories 1. Scholarships are available for students interested in participating in the following activities: Debate, Student Government, Resident Hall Assistants, Rodeo, Radio-Television Broadcasting, School Newspaper, Theatre Arts, Art, Music, Dance, Pro-Mo Dancers, Cheerleaders. When a student indicates an interest in any of these activities on the scholarship application, copies of the scholarship application are always forwarded. However, the student should contact the director or advisor for the specific activity to get information about selection criteria, auditions (if any), etc. 2. Leadership Scholarships Available only to graduating high school seniors. Students must specify on their scholarship application that they wish to be considered for a leadership scholarship. Applicants need not be student body officers to be considered. In addition to the scholarship application, each applicant must submit the following: (1) a resume specifically emphasizing leadership position titles, responsibilities, and accomplishments; (2) a one-page essay expressing what they believe to be the role of extra-curricular involvement in education; (3) at least two letters of reference, preferably from counselors and/or teachers. The general requirements for an activity scholarship are (1) maintain a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA; (2) be registered full time (12 hours). Activity scholarships are one-year awards waiving full or half tuition, and are based on students' abilities or outstanding achievements. Activity scholarships (with the exception of leadership scholarships) may be renewed when the student meets the selection criteria established by the awarding department; a maximum of 15 quarters is allowed. Scholarships for Out-of-State Students Nonresident students may apply for scholarships in the categories outlined above. The waivers are equivalent only to the in-state portion of the student's tuition ; the student must pay the difference between in-state and the out-of-state tuition. Established policies and procedures are the same for resident and nonresident scholarships. International Students - International students may apply for any nonresident scholarships. Donor specified selection criteria are the only limitations imposed upon international students for sponsor scholarship competitions. Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) - This is a program through which students in 13 participating states may enroll in designated two-year and four-year institutions and programs in other participating states at a special, reduced tuition level applicable only to WUE students, namely the amount of in-state tuition plus 50 percent of that amount. A separate application is available through the WSU Scholarship Office. Participating states are: Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii (four-year college level only), Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming. Utah Code 53-34-2.4 (100 Mile Tuition Reduction) - A nonresident partial tuition reduction awarded initially only to an undergraduate student who has not previously been enrolled in a college or university in Utah and who has enrolled full-time and whose legal domicile is within approximately 100 highway miles of the Utah institution at which the nonresident student wishes to enroll. The reduction may not be more than one-half of the differential tuition charged to nonresident students. Sponsor Scholarships (Privately Funded) The general requirements are (1) must maintain 3.50 GPA unless otherwise specified; (2) must be registered full time (12 hours). Privately funded scholarships are awarded according to the donor's specifications, usually major specific, and are often referred to as departmental scholarships. Departmental scholarships are awarded from lists prepared and forwarded by the Scholarship Office. Departmental applicant lists are sorted by the major that is listed on electronic files; students should verify that their major is listed correctly. REGISTRATION Registrar: L. Classes are offered during autumn, winter, spring and summer quarters and during one pre-term period from mid-August to mid-September. The quarterly class schedule includes registration procedures, dates and classes to be offered. The schedule may be purchased at the WSU Bookstore one week prior to the beginning of each quarterly registration. Pre-term class offerings are included with the Autumn Class Schedule. See the Academic Calendar on the inside back cover of this catalog for registration dates and beginning and ending dates for each quarter. Registration Process Appointments • The week before registration begins each quarter, eligible students are assigned an appointment time to register. Registration priority is given to students with the most completed total credit hours. • Students may call 626-6100 during this week to learn their appointment time. Appointment times are also posted in the Shepherd Union Building and the Registration Office. First Registration Phase (By Appointment and Open Registration) • Students may register only during their appointed time during the appointment registration period of the first phase. • Students should call Touch-Tell registration at 626- 6100 on their assigned day at the appointed time to register. Each student's registration "window" lasts for approximately two days. Refer to the class schedule for details. • Once appointment registration is complete, Touch-Tell registration continues on an open registration basis wherein all students are allowed to register and/or make changes to their class schedule.
